Needed something to scrape driveway . Came up with this . Made from Guard rail post & Railroad spikes . is 6' wide does better job than 6' scraper blade. Spikes are on piece of angle & retrack when not needed.

Nice Job! I bet that grades great! ;)

BTW, I used to live in Elkins back in the early 90s. I hope WV hasn't changed that much?

Oldmax,

That look like it does a good job. I'm sure all you would have to do is drop a hint and your neighbors would invite you over to do their driveway as well.

I am intrigued in what you did here with those railroad spikes. They seem to me in the picture to go way down into the ground.... And as they flip up, how do you prevent them from bending... You have them welded to a smaller piece of steel than the big ibeams, right?

Looks good. The more you can angle or capture the spillage from the ditch side and pull it to the center of the driveway the better. Otherwise you may find that you are building a berm next to the ditch, preventing the water from exiting the road surface.

Neat idea, good job.

atgreen : I just use to keep driveway level and to remove grass from same.

woodlandfarms : the teeth are welded to a 3"X3"X6' angle and hinged at both ends only about half of the spikes are below the bottom . They are used to pull grass out of limestone then I pull up out of way to level . I have used this for two years and so far i haven't bent any spikes. have also used on garden to level after plowing . I live beside Railroad track can pick up all I want beside tracks. Limestone in my driveway are #57 it sure saves a lot of pulling buy hand. Will post Picture of teeth in next few days.

excelagator : The only thing that has changed is people keep moving away . They like the land but no JOBS . I have lived most of my life here except 4 years in Texas , 1 year in Richmond VA & 1 1/2 years in Detroit MI. But always came back to the hills of WV.

Thanks for the detail photos and all the info. In my area I think I would bend those teeth at that length (caching on boulders) but this is a great idea, and seemingly a lot less than the 3K Road Boss wants... May have to steal your idea ;-)
