I am thinking about taking a rotary shredder for mowing grass and mounting an engine on it since I don't have a tractor.
I would pull this behind a garden tractor of around 20 hp.

Has anyone ever done this?

The land is too small for a regular tractor and too big/too much time for a 46" riding mower.

Thanks

Are you talking about taking a tractor RC and converting it? Doable I guess but a lot of work. You'd need a good size engine to turn the full size stump jumper (assuming a 4'RC). Have to rig up a clutch, belt, wheels not to big of a deal.

I like the kind mentioned, pulled behind an ATV it's a nice ride over a riding mower.

Rather than buy a 4 or 5ft brush hog, I've thought about building something like the DR Brush cutter. I like the design of theirs, but they are WAY PROUD of their hardware. Costs a fortune!

A lot of the places I'd want to cut would be to steep to run my tractor over, so the walk behind sounds good. I know it would be a man killer to try to hang on to it, but it's still something I'd like to have.

I've gone so far as to look in the Surplus Center catalog--you can buy transaxles & transmissions for not too much $$$$, so that part could be built easily. Then it's just the mower part and motor...................

I don't need any more winter projects, but this one sounds like a good one!

Just find yourself an old Gravely walk-behind tractor... they're indestructible and would still likely outlast you...

Yes, something like the Swisher. I would just like to mount a motor on the deck and get after it.

No way I am going to walk behind a mower for two acres worth when h.p. is available.

You could downsize it to two blades or three...I didn't put any fancy smancy discharge chute on it...it just seems to blow out the back....ain't nuttin' to hit out back anyway... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Works REALLY WELL paired up with my 5 foot Swisher and my WC...

Last year I had two push mowers mounted to a frame behind my Gravely Model L..one on each side of and to the rear of the steering sulky. That gave me about a six foot cut!!! Made me dizzy.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
