This is the way it works.

Think itty bitty bites.

By using this tool or something that performs the same function you crimp the horizontal wires removing slack.

When the section is "dressed" as we call the crimping process it will be just as tight as the bottom strands.

The fence will look fantastic. And if you have such a tool in your tool box you can repair fence that's been deformed by horses rubbing or pawing against the fabric.

Harvey, I didn't even know they made those. They sure would have made life a lot easier on my fence. Can you get them a the fence supply store? I bought a roll of heavy guage galvanized wire and cut out my own.

Thanks for the information.

Neat tool. I hadn't thought of that approach. I saw a commercial one, very old, that was a pliers type, 2 prongs on one side, three on the other, one squeeze and you had two "v" crimps. Saw an old farmer use it to tighten a fence that began almost laying on the ground. He just walked down it, squeeze, squeeze, squeeze and at the end had a tight fence.

I tried to find one, no luck even having the local grange research their catalogs. Finally built my own using a Vice Grips with angle irong welded to the jaws. Works great and only one hand. My mistake was clamping the two angle irons in the grips then welding. I should have put two pieces of wire between the angles first to get a more parallel fit on the fence. End result is like field fence with the "V" tension crimps.

Sorry, no pics, no camera.
