Home Owners Insurance etc.

I asked my dealer about the John Deere insurance it's a good price, however it's really only insurance for John Deere. If your tractor is totaled the loan is paid off -$500 deductable.

This week I called my insurance agent to see if my homeowners insurance covered the tractor. l was told like others posters that I would be covered only on my property. I've got a funny feeling that if while cleaning up my mailbox area just outside my driveway and something happened I would be really out of luck.

So I'm waiting for an insurance quote from my insurance agent on a policy.

My agent told me that leaving my property was OK if I was on my legal right of way across another property. Which makes me think I had better get that in writing from the insurance company it's self because that does not sound right. I suspect that my agent is not above a bit **** ventriloquism given the chance.

My agent basically said the same thing. As long as I was not using it for commercial work, it was covered at home. I guess it depend on what risks you think are acceptable. My greatest fear was theft and then storm damage (like a tree falling on it). I figured my odds of wrecking it a 5mph were pretty low.

What got tricky was the towing scenarios if I wanted to used it somewhere else. He said it would be covered by my auto insurance on any "named" accident. Which basically means that if you don't tie it down good and it falls off, or the trailer fails you're SOL. But, if it falls off and another car hits it, then it becomes a "named" accident. I've only used it off-site once, so it's really not worth buying a policy.

Your homeowner policy covers lawn tractors or garden tractors under your content part of your policy, but it has a limitation of coverage.

It covers your contents away from permises up to a certain amount, same applies to your tractor.

Under the liability section, it has a limitation as far as the H.P. of the tractor.
it covers on your property and away.

The type of policy should tell you what your coverage it is, if you have all risks on your contents than collision and upset will be covered.

They have limitations cause they dont want to cover a bigger farm tractor on a house policy wich make sence.

Make sure you have LIABILITY INSURANCE , this is the most important coverage to have. Just read the thread concerning tractors accident and you will convince yourself.

The dealers policies Ex. Kubota or John Deere dont have liability coverage.

I have farm bureau and they told me my tractor was covered for 20 grand if its on my property (which is what I paid for it) but that doesn't leave any money for the other things that could be damaged in a catastrophe.

I haven't added extra coverage as of this point in time however I dont know what I want to do about it because its never parked anywhere but on my property's.

You better recheck, I found that Geico covers anything attached to my vehicle under liability only, even though I have full coverage. So in you example, if my tractor fell off the trailer and smacked a car, someone would get their car fixed, but as for the tractor, it is your problem.

I have been trying to find insurance that would cover my trailer and contents fully, but so far no luck.

I took the John Deere insurance to have at least some coverage for the moment. I am still looking into my own policy to cover me especially when on the street side opening up the mail box area after a snow storm or if I wanted to drive to the neighbor.

JD covers the remainder of the loan only even off my property or if I was trailering the tractor. So far the only policy that I can get other than a commercial policy is $350 per year. I think the upper limit was $30,000 of coverage. The agent told me the policy cost is double the amount of last years prices. Both the JD or a seperate policy cover the tractor only and no personal liability.

I wonder how many tractor owners are off their property and don't realize they have no coverage?

I would have thought the Insurance companies would have been eager to insure a homeowners compact utitily tractor, but I guess I was wrong. Do homeowners with small tractors have that many insurance claims?

I got the insurance from John Deere, and for about $100 bucks a year, it covers everything, everywhere..fire, theft, valdalism, rollover, hail, treelimb, etc... and thats about half of what my homeowners insurance co. wanted to cover it ONLY on my property. I thought is was a steal, because I DO help neighbors, friends with projects and such, and I am not always on my own property.

CAB/AIR5225 is that like the JD insurance I bought that only covers the oustanding loan balance?

I called State Farm and they said since mine is primarly used to maintain my home, it's covered under my homeowners policy. It's covered even if it is off my property as long as I'm not doing work for money with it.
