Home Stretch! BX25 vs GC2410 packages. What to do?!

On the off chance this is seen by some of you that have been commenting on my previous posts on what tractor to buy, it has come down to the final exciting (for me) chapter.

Here are the two all new stock packages I have local offers on. I am seeking 'If I were you I would get the...' comments from you seasoned (and even not so seasoned) tractor fans.

In the left corner:

BX 25 TLB w/ Bar tires
3 PH
10" BH Bucket
60" Kubota MMM
Land Pride 48" Box Blade
Wallenstein Thumb
side of turf tires
Doorstep Delivered
All for $19,565 financed for 0%@60 Months

In the Right Corner:
GC2410 TLB w/ Bar tires
3PH
10" BH Bucket
60" M-F MMM
Howse 48" Box Blade
NO THUMB AVAILABLE
Side of Turf Tires
Doorstep Delivery
All for 19,500financed for 0%@72 Months.

So, on one hand I have the ($375) thumb but a higher payment ($349/mo x 60) on what I think is a 'slightly' less beefy unit (the BX)...but has better 'name' thus resale value - so I am told, on the other, I have a lower payment ($270/mo x 72) on the possibly beefier M-F unit but it cant even mount a thumb - so I am told (I have tonnes of log relocating to do).

What I'm doing with it: Correction and upgrades (drainage, topsoil, gravel road install, tree and shrub planting, inset flagstone walkways, french drains, etc) to 1 cleared acre of a 5 acre wooded plot of high clay soil land, then installation of new topsoil and lawn. Then lawn maintenance after that w/ occasional harvesting of trees for firewood and lumber, de-stumping and grading over and seeding 1 or 2 trees at a time with the intent to increase my total area of cleared land.

I know some of you may want to comment and say "it comes down to personal preference" but I have had about 6 minutes of seat time in the BX25 and have yet to drive the 1.5 hours to go test drive the closest 2410. (Though both my nearest Kabota and M-F Dealers are about 30 to 40 mins away...the closest M-F doesnt have the unit I want in stock.) No way to form a 'preference' yet. I want to know what you all think!

A wordy request, I know. :confused2: Thank you to all that power through it and render an answer.

Cheers!

Problem with answering the "If I were you I would get" question is you end up with something more of a poll than anything really useful. I suspect there are lots of BX owners that looked at the GC and preferred the BX, and vice versa.

As to not being able to mount a thumb on a GC, I'm not sure why one would say that. I have a Sundown thumb on my GC. It was installed by the dealer prior to delivery. It's quite a beefy unit, used on machines up to about 50hp. It's a little big on the GC, but it sure is nice for picking up rock and logs.

In any case, good lock with whatever you choose. You can't make a wrong choice!

Well, then if I can put a thumb on it that makes it easier to see the GC pull ahead some as I could really use that gentler payment. Thanks for that.

What do you all think of the price for the package?

The prices seem great to me. Almost to good to be true. No way to get those prices further North here in CT, MA, RI, etc. Just the base units are close to $18k around here. Consider getting rimguard in one set of tires, probably the bars. The extra weight will add traction and stability.

Hey, about your thumb there...is that red painted plate that the thumb is attached to there from the factory or is that what the dealer added and painted on it.

The red plate is part of the thumb. The dealer welded it to the dipper and then painted it to match.

Well - I just got back from my trip to go see the GC. I really liked it. Seems to be a little sturdier and I much prefer the side by side pedals to the BX rocker deal.

I tell ya though, this dealer is slick. Because I failed to specifically ask about delivery or 'other fees' this guy took the $19,500 number for the package I mentioned above and instantly boosted it another 450 dollars north for delivery and 'filing fees'.

He wants $250 to deliver the tractor 43 miles down the road to my house and another $200 for 'filing fees' who he claims he has to give all of to Massey corporate. Does this sound right to you all or did just get a little bait and switched on that part.

If bait and switched, understand me, I don't have a problem with a dealer making profit off the deal- I understand has to happen to make the thing even available, no problem, I get it, I'm a capitalist myself, but to make it in this manner seems a bit dishonest and shady IMO.

Also, he really kept trying to talk me out of getting the R1, Bar tires. Said this and that about them (said they 'wear quicker' and 'puncture easier') then he admitted later that he didnt even have any in stock. Was he correct that these tires provide no traction value, and just wear out quicker and get punctured easier or is he just not wanting the hassle of ordering and installing a set of tires. What could his motivation possibly be to poo poo these tires so much. He kept trying to get me to just take the R4's and the Turf Tires.

For the toothbar he said he would mount a Massey brand toothbar for another $328. Does that sound about right?

Last - he has never welded a Sundown thumb on a CG2410 (or any M-F for that matter) before. He didn't know anything about them, but he did say he had a good welder but that the guy would have to essentially remove the boom and put it on a table to properly weld it, running up the $80/hr welders fee to attach it. Does this sound right?

Thanks guys for all your help with this.

my two cents,

Since it sounds like no other Massey dealers within driving distance...with the mmm and other items, price sound ok.

At the Massey dealer, was the "add on costs" from a salesman, the owner, or manager. I went through that once with a local dealer's salesman and since then I deal with the owner and get better prices without "add ons" popping up. I would ask for free delivery. The filing fee sounds a little high, but the cost for 0% is not 0%.

The R1 tires will give you more traction than the R4 industrial tires. The R1's on the GC are a nice design. Anyway, there are a lot of posts on that topic. You sound right that he doesn't want to order any in.

The one advantage with the Massey is the engine displacement is larger and has lower rated RPM's. The Kubota has a couple advantages points likewise...resale is one you pointed out.

The 10" BH bucket on the Massey is a little deeper than the Kubota, but in either case, for what you outlined you may want to consider the 12".

You can get after market thumb for the GC that will bolt on and order yourself along with a toothbar.

Good luck on the decision!
