I'm lazy! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Actually, my wife and I will begin walking once the weather gets a little warmer. It'll be good for the dogs who will accompany us. Our only problem will be different speeds that we like to walk. For me to walk at my wife's pace, I feel like I am in slow motion. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"once the weather gets a little warmer"

Well, the way things are going this year, that ought to be sometime in June!

I used the demo version for a month, Mike ... but I sure wasn't about to pay no $69 for it ... that works out to about 3 months at the gym ... which helps me a whole lot more than a piece of software.
I asked them for a bundle price on that and the diabetic program and they said ... nope, but you're welcome to pay full price ...

Thanks all...

One of the reasons I'm contemplating something like this is impact to knees. Without knowing the technical name, seems my inner leg muscles dont' "fire" as quick, or strong as others, as such, my knee caps get skewed to side by stronger thigh muscles and after much movement, start becoming quite sore. It can get so bad (say if moving furniture, or 12 mile hike in woods /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif (dont ask me how I know about hike part) that I'll be limping noticealby.)

also, we live 15 miles out of town, so a home machine might be significantly more conviente to use than the club.

I've thought of starting daily walks into woods up hills with pups in tow, but I know right now, I'll only serve to tear up my knees, so the first order of business, is to strengthen inside legs.

Ahh.. well, just thinking aloud via fingers.

My goal of this thread was to see if one or the other of those 2 machines might have any known benefit or risk. I hadn't thought of looking on ebay/other.

Might be something I need to look into further (hmm..more procrastination??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

I'll make one last pitch for the swimming - definitely low impact and very good for strengthening every muscle in your body. Fortunately for me, there's a reasonably priced indoor pool only 1 1/2 miles from where I work, so I go over at lunch time. You may not have anything so convenient. Good luck!

I've used lots of aerobic conditioning equipment and I have to say that my favorite is a good quality eliptical trainer. It's a little tough to get the hang of, and you look goofy, but joint impact is a non-issue, and you get a whole-body workout.

I purchased a Nordic-track model CXT-910 a few months ago and it performed as advertised. My daughter loves it. Unfortunately the flywheel was assembled out-of-round at the factory. This didn't affect performance until recently. This thread reminded me to call Nordic-track, so thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Anyway, the unit is very quiet, so we watch television while using it. Try that with most treadmills! Also, it is sturdy enough for me to believe that I'm working out on professional gym equipment. After buying the eliptical, I cancelled my gym membership and haven't missed it too much. Next on the list is a bowflex, if I can find one reasonable. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Can you handle something like a stationary bike? I have bad knees, too (seven surgeries), and find cycling to be a good compromise for me. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

wingnut, I've been using the product since it was called DietLog, so I got to upgrade to BalanceLog for $40.

In terms of discipline with a home gym, I have found a solution that works for me. I get out of bed 45 minutes earlier, and get it done. Even if I do not feel well, I get my exercise gear on and do some light stretching with the equipment. It keeps up the routine. It's worked for 10 years now. At the end of the day, there are just too many other things to challenge the discipline.
