Homelite saw

   / Homelite saw #21
My wife and I were at HD this morning, passing by the chainsaws...my wife pointed out this Homelite saw with a broken top handle on the display unit (right where it attaches to the top of the engine). So, just for fun, we started looking at the same thing on the other saws there. Poulan, ECHO, Homelite.
Tha Homelite was much more flimsy at this attachment point, in fact, it was plastic. Making a saw with weak handles doesn't seem like the smartest thing for a tool that will see some rough use, possibly being dropped, etc.
You get what you pay for...
Just an observation as we were passing by...

The ONLY good saw Homelite has ever produced is the old XL12 (blue color) made in the early 70s. If you can get one for $50 at a garage sale--cool....otherwise, with the homeowner grade Stihls starting @ $ 199 - Go Stihl or Husky

Was at Home depot yesterday and saw a WeedEater garden tractor it had 3 very flat tires and a huge crack going down the cowl. It was still priced at $1000!

I have got one and am going to use it for target practice as soon as I get a replacement. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I purchased a homelite last year. At the time the price looked very good even though it was remanufactured. Having read these posts I now know why the seller was dumping them . Nevetheless it has held up to some heavy use and to being driven over by me in the tractor.

Bought a Homelite with 16" bar from HD 3 years ago, paid about $100. I use it a dozen times a year to drop a tree or clear branches. Starts easy, runs fine, used and abused, zero maintenance. I leave the old fuel in it all winter, never cleaned or changed a spark plug or air filter. I bought it with it being 'disposable' in my mind. I've got my $100 and more out of it and it's given me no reason to think about replacing it.

Back in the 70s homelite made professional grade saws.I knew many loggers that would only buy & use homelite saws . Today, I'am sad to say they are junk ! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
