You'll need a slippery surface with some curve to the face of the blade so the snow will curl and tumble. Otherwise, it will be like hitting a wall. The way it is, it will tend to pack the snow instead of rolling it. Look at other snow plow blades to see what I mean.

thanks i was thinking of getting some cheep snow shovels and cutting the handles off and putting them on. do you think that will work and do you have any other ideas on how to make it?

Seeing that it's made of wood and is inexpensive to construct, I would op to making it either tilt, or fix it to push the snow to one side. Another option is to also make a Vee plow that will push the snow to both sides. You can overcome the snow sticking by just screwing a very thin plastic liner to the front. It will work great with fluffy dry snow. Heavy wet snow may take a bit longer to plow due to smaller bites. Is you lawn tractor transmission certified for plowing? Some lighter duty lawn transmissions just don't like much loading other than scooting around the yard on a warm day mowing down the grass. I recommend you replace the transmission fluid with a good quality synthetic for the best cold flow properties for winter. Especially if it's a hydrostatic. I run 5w-50 full synthetic fluid in both my hydros, and they are rated for plowing. Both pushing a plow, and pulling a plow. Good Luck, and you get high marks for ingenuity with you equipment on hand.

thanks, the trans is rated for plowing and i have puled out many large bushes with it. and how would i change the fluid in it i think it might be sealed. I don't know. How would i make the plow trip if i angle it or make it in to a v?

If you just angle the plow to one side it will still trip like it does now. As far as curling the blade, old snow shovels could work. Just make sure the bottom edge is well braced, as it's doing most of the work.

Just curious. What kind of tools do you have access to? It helps to know what you have to work with before suggesting elaborate solutions that you're not equipped to handle.

thanks i have a steel peace on the bottom edge to use a scraper blade (pic 3, its green) and i would put the shovels above that. What if i make it in to a v? Could it still trip over.
