Honda Pioneer 700-4

Oh and a Winch is almost manditory on a UTV. As Foggy 111 recently found out. :)

Yes - before you even think of deep mud you need a winch and a wench. The winch to be operated by the wench.

Realizing it's a Honda, how is access to filters etc.? On my Civic I can't get the oil filter off easily, my hand is too big. A case of needing a wench with a wrench.

Speaking of winches - if you happen to be using an older WARN winch check the solenoid, they recalled a bunch of them. I took the winch off my Rhino and transferred it to the RZR when I bought it, and a short while later it quit working. I traced the problem to the solenoid and started looking on line to order a new one. I found where they had a recall on the older style ones that I had and called them and they sent me a new replacement one for free. Worked out really well for once!

I still like that Pioneer and would love to have the a 2 seater around the house for work tasks!

CrazyAl,
What's the plow truck in the background? Looks neat.

Looks like an international but I could be wrong

That's me 77 International 4wd Loadstar 1700.

The oil drain is easy to get to on my Big Red but the filter is a little tricky. I have a car lift so it's not bad for me but trying to do it laying on your back could be more difficult. The access hole isn't as large as it could be.

The filter has easy access. Just remove the front seat and remove a rubber lining and has a fairly large opening to get to it.

Question, on when you got stuck, were you just tooling along in two wheel drive, or four. I got stuck like that once, in four, but not lock, lucky I had the Winches. Next time thru was in four wheel lock, and had no problems.

I was in 4WD when I drove into this trail bog. Really surprised that it was boggy....like that.....as it appeared good to go. I should have had my HD Power puller stowed in the back....or a winch. But alas.

Aftermarket winch mounts are now just becoming available. Far less $ than Honda. I just received mine from KFI.....and I am considering which winch to buy. Still.....a front mount winch would have been hard to bring into play here. Really needed to pull from behind.

I added a 2" receiver tube at the front and made myself two of these for pulling stuff, tying it down, and when pulling it out.

I have a Honda Pioneer with a glass windshield, plastic hardtop and fabric doors and rear window. If I lived in TN or KS?I could likely get along without a heater?.as a cab really cuts down the wind. Keeping the wind off is huge?.and in moderate temps my cab without heat would be sufficient for most uses. BUt?.it's been below zero here lately and there is not any appreciable heat coming from the engine in these temps.

It was -10 coming off the lake last night?.and my windows were iced up and it was pretty cold in the cab. Not windy?C O L D. If you would be wearing light clothing?.you woulda froze your fanny off. I was wearing ice armor bibs, a hooded parka, insulated boots and warm gloves?and I was getting cold. At least the wind was not much of a factor?.my enclosure really helps in that department.

For me, a UTV without a cab would really cut down on the utility of this vehicle. A heater costs about $500 and seems worth the investment to me.

I am waiting on Honda to ship heaters for the new Pioneer (they say Mid Jan now). I realize there are some aftermarket heaters too?.but I want one designed to fit and work with my Pioneer. Here in MN?.I think a heater is worthwhile.

Foggy,
I quoted this from the UTV plow thread because I had a couple comments and didn't want to hijack that thread.

I completely agree with you on wanting the heater! One of the reasons I really like the Pioneer is because it seems like the heater/cab was designed together by Honda and should be a good fit and finish, rather than an afterthought just stuck in somewhere.

Can you post an update here when you get the heater and use it a few times in the cold weather? I'm curious if it can provide useable heat when the machine is at idle, or if it will need to have a slight load on the motor to really heat much.
I'd like to be able to start the machine and let it warm up with the heat on while I'm in the house, then go out to the nice warm machine. Not sure if it will be able to heat up the cab like that, or if it's only designed to "take the chill off" but I figure if it can keep someone warm in your neck of the woods, then it should work for me :D

Thanks for the helpful info you've provided thus far.

By the way, got any more pics? ;)
