Is the Honda Ridgeline mid-size truck the only mid-size model that offers a clear 48"+ between the wheel wells?

I was surprised to find out that the Nissan Frontier did not have this clear distance.

Thanks

Had a couple of them sitting next to my 2004 F150 Crew Cabs. I didn't realise the Honda was considered a mid size?? I thought it was in with the F150. But it is funny when you go to the Honda web page they compare it with the Dodge Dakota, some GM's and then I saw the Ford Explorer Sport trac which I thought was in the small size.

I wonder how they will do on gas mileage?

I'm not sure what "mid sized" means, but my F150 styleside does.

I saw one of those RidgeLines at the auction last week, I hafta admit I love that under-bed "trunk". Why is it always the Japanese who come up with these great ideas - I'd much prefer that to the add-on aluminum toolbox I have /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I was a kid there were a few trucks around that had a home built trunk under the bed. They called them " Poacher Boxes". /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I really like that the Nissans titan tool boxes on the lower rear fender. I really hate truck boxes that you have to add on. I could live with the Side boxes but they are to pricey at $150 a piece.
I saw a 78 model ford that had the those boxes looked like a factory job.

I really hate truck boxes with wimpy useless tie downs. What's up with that. There aint a truck in 20 years with good solid tie downs that are easily accessible from outside the bed, and in enough numbers to securely tie a load. It's no wonder there's so much junk on the sides of the road outa pickups; even if a person wanted to they cant secure a load properly.

Honda is making a smart marketing play calling it a "midsize". It is big for a midsize. However, without a V8 and only a 5,000# tow rating, it will not compare favorably with a full size truck (at least on paper).

I'd expect the gas milage to be better than anything else on the market with 250HP amd 4wheel drive. EPA rates it at 16/21. Our Pilot rates at 17/22. Does 20-21 in mixed driving. My F150 rates at 14/17 and gets 14 in mixed driving...

Agree with that Robert, it's a PITA trying to tie something down. The new Tacoma comes with a rail system on the inside of the bed with moveable, lockable tie downs, looks pretty good.

About that box under the bed, the only problem with it is that if you have a load in the bed you can't open it without unloading first. I like the idea of storage boxes on the sides, accessible from the out side, a place to keep your tie downs, hitch etc. Easy to get to and big enough to hold some stuff.
Now that I think about it, doesn't the new Titan have these already?

From the Titan website....

Bedside Lockbox
Titan's climate-resistant Bedside Lockbox, located just behind the driver's side rear wheelwell, is a great way to keep "just in case" items outside the bed and close at hand. It even has a two-position adjustable tray, and a removable rubber mat for cushioning.

Looks like it also comes with a tie down system....

Utili-track™ Channel System
Another first-in-class innovation for Titan, the Utili-track™ Channel System offers amazing load-carrying versatility. Five C-channel rails run the length of the bed's floor and walls: two on the floor, two on the side walls, and one on the header panel. Four heavy-duty tie-down cleats come standard (extras are available as an accessory) and can be positioned anywhere along the rails to help you configure even the most complex, cumbersome loads. All this, plus 22 additional structural reinforcements to help ensure the bed can handle just about anything you're now inspired to carry home.

I like the ones in my 2004 F150 Crew Cab. There is one in each corner that is fairly strong. However, with the height of the box they are kind of tough to get to. i am ok because I am tall but anyone shorter than 5' 10" it might be tough to reach.
