Honda Rubicon CV Boot Repair

if ya wanna spend the money but the bands i get at autozone they ratchet theirself on so the wrench would be useless. and they sell for around 3.00 or under. i use them on my hpx .what kind do you dave to use with the wrench?? i never seen them i only used these that autozone sells.

The tool will work with the bands that come with the boots or NAPA bands.
It's a simple tool that allows you to get the correct tightness on the bands.

I once tried to pull the bands with a pair of vise grips and just couldn't get them right.
The tool allows you to pull the tension and then make the bend with it tight.
$13 bucks is cheap for a good tool.
I have never used the self racheting bands so I don't know if I would like them.

But the tool works on the band type that most CV's come with.

My little $13 dollar tool has paid for itself.

Kind of like the guy that told me I was crazy to buy the tool to load my tractor tires. He just went down and paid the tire store..........until He borrowed mine and saw how easy it was.........He bought his own after that........now another friend is using them!!

First, I would like to thank all for the help.... everything fell into place.
All you members, ya'll are worth a million !!!!!
Now, purchased a CV Joint Banding Tool, it was a LISLE Tool brand ( $9.50)
>>>>>> Now, the funny part, HONDA don't need banding tools.
My son, who is a diesel mechanic at the Ford dealership, stopped by while I was in the middle of the job.... Seen that banding tool and said " Heck, I have been begging the Snap-On and Matco Tool salesman to find me a CV Boot banding tool. " ~~~~ Quess what, I just give him one of his Christmas presents early. He was happy as a pig !!!!!

He said that HOnda, is just about the only company that boots DON'T need the banding tool.
Job took about 1 hr and 20 minutes ~~~~ and that's counting putting up the tools and checking everything out !!!!! It would be much quicker next time. For this time I was having to keep a close eye on what snap ring, retainer ring, spacer , bearing , and all that other &*$@#>? stuff feel back when going back in with it ....
It was not as bad as I thought it would be !!!! But wanted to thank all of you good folks for the helping hand, always nice to know you have people that is concerened with you broken problems ~~~~~~

Glad it all came out for you........still cheaper then the dealer.

You might want to look for another supplier for the boots. Here is one on ebay for $19.99. I have bought them for less than $50 for a pair.
The after market boot is tougher and yes you need the band tool....but you know where one is now......ha

If you have a place that sells/ rebuilds/ installs cv axles on autos. you can purchase a boot from them for less. It's also a thicker rubber boot. The boots from the dealer are thin

maybe go by a salvage yard infact you guys gave me an idea . every so often someone throws away a front end of a car steering or drive system with the boots still on them . they are about the same size as my hpx or atleast i'm gonna start finding out. that should save me about 20.00 a pop.

Now that this project is finished. And all is going well again. I'm going to find a source for some tougher boots and some at a better price.
It's really not that hard of a project. But lookin' at the schematic at all them rings, sleeves , etc, make a man want to use a cam-corder so he can push the reverse buttom just to see how the thing goes back together.
It's a crying shame that the dealers has to charge so dern much for some little piece of rubber . Knowing well and all it is not worth all what they ask for them.
Must be one of them " SUPPLY AND DEMAND " things ~~~~

Thanks again to all ya'll great folks for the help !!!!!!!1
