Honesty

My German exchange student and I went to the Community College Saturday Swap meet and an elderly gentleman had his table set-up and as we were walking by said he was making deals today...

My student quickly replied she doesn't buy trash... Europeans tend to be direct and English isn't her first language... in other words a tactless reply.

The fellow was not quite sure he heard what he heard and asked... I quickly grabbed her hand and said "No Cash" as trash and cash sounding similar... and placated the situation.

We moved down a little and she said why did you lie... and I said why did you hurt the old man's feelings?

Then I was getting a lecture on Americans are afraid to say what they think... and so it went and I said one's trash is another's treasure...

She was a stunningly beautiful young lady and one would not have expected her being blunt and direct.

I believe I know what "the" truth is; yet on Sunday morning preacher tv I find myself not believing a word they say... :confused3:

While I rarely listen to Bible Thumpers, especially TY ones, I'm appalled by the attitude 'do as I say but not as I do'.
Like alms for poor while the Thumper drives a Lamborgini lives in a $5 mil home!

Catholic church is just as bad. Hiding perverts, hoarding art treasures from WW2, I could go on.

Do unto others as you'd wish to be done to you.

I was with several students in Prague... we were on train going to Vienna... all nursing students in the group

Two from Denmark, one Swiss and two Austria.

The Swiss girl was being hit on to no end by two drunk Czech guys... we could not sit altogether... and I was oblivious until one of the nurses alerted me.

I got up and moved to sit next to her... she grab my arm and said I was her boyfriend... the guys stopped in their tracks and said Sorry Mr President several times and left...

Another total fabricated lie on the spur of the moment...

Honesty is more honorable than dishonesty or omission.

I believe myself to be honest. But I strive for integrity, which is much more encompassing. I would include keeping one's mouth shut at appropriate times to be part of its definition.

“Truth”, “honesty” and “facts”.
Around here, the newspaper will write an editorial piece. Facts and honesty and truth sprinkled with opinions and selective omissions. The number of people who jump and holler and don’t know that’s it’s an editorial is mind-boggling. So many people don’t know the difference an between “honest, truthful, factual“ opinion and a news story.
Like those people at the funeral “She was a cold mean...” You might be honest and truthful, but it’s YOUR truth, YOUR opinion. It’s rude to think everyone should have yours.

.....says the guy spouting his opinion on the internet.

I always heard it as: ... and she dresses YOU funny. :)

Yeah, it was:
You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny, but I was modifying the line for being honest at funerals, which you should not be sometimes. ;)

What the OP describes isn't being honest; he merely feels the need expressing an opinion, at the most inopportune time.. Sometimes it's best to keep those to yourself. We may have freedom of speech yet every right includes an equal amount of responsibility.
