Honey Bee Nest in tree in city

Hey all:

I have a honey bee nest in a tree hole in the back yard at my GF'S house in Mansfield Ohio. I know that honey bees are not dangerous my dad raised them for many many years. I also know that they can be captured & re-located easliy enough using "queen farmone/sent" I can easliy get rid of them using conventional means but the hive would be a good addition to someones bee farm. They are in a old maple that is about 5' across and has a hole softball sized in the trunk at 4' off the ground which does go back in a ways perfict bee home really. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif usually inhabitated by black birds in spring but this hive showed up yesterday.

anyhow is there anyone close to mansfield who would "BEE" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif interested in them? I'll be getting rid of them with in a week as the woman is pretty allergic to them.


I'll give them a week or so to respond and I'll check the local paper / phone book to see if anyone would be interested as well.

Mark, during my years on the Dallas Police Department, our Communications Division (dispatcher's office) kept a list of local beekeepers who would go collect unwanted bees. It wasn't uncommon for someone to call with a bee problem and we'd just give them all the names and phone numbers on that list to call. I don't know whether your local police keep such a list or not, but you might give them a call and ask.

Amazing timing. I just found one in an oak behind my place too. It's about 20 feet off the ground. At least I think they're bees, they're yellow looking and I really can't get close enough to see if they're something else /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
My question is: Will they harm the tree?
I'll leave them bee /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif if they're harmless to the tree.
