My wife still drives School bus, I use to when I worked 3rd shift and now I wouldn't do it with out a gun!!

Funny, I can remember in high school. I was one of the last ones on the route. During deer season, the bus driver used to keep his .270 in the front of the bus just above the gear shifter. I remember getting all bloody helping him load a deer into the bus. He did give me some jerky for helping out. I miss the good ol' days.

Jim, I too retired from the US Navy after 21 years of service... I sure like that retirement check and a bit of tax free disability. My wife just turned 41 so she is still working next door at the golf course (no comute). Life is good!

Heck Jim, retirement is ****. No days off, work week-ends, the boss is a slave driver, etc., etc. Man I wouldn't change it for the world. I retired 9 years ago, fully retired about 5 years ago and I can honestly say that I haven't been busier or happier in my life. Get SS next year so that will help out a bit but things aren't too bad even with the recession.

Retirement does take a little bit of getting used to. Getting up in the morning and having no work to go to is a little strange at first but it opens up all kinds of possibilities. You'll be surprised at all the things that show up to fill in your day, nearly all of them unpaid but they keep you busy from morning till night.

Enjoy it, you've earned it. You and Kathy will have a great time.

Dang! I'm ate up with envy!!! Have fun. Enjoy life. I'm out the door in 363 days. I can't WAIT! Just don't do what I did. I started up a business to keep the son/sons-in-laws busy and it looks like my "retirement" is going to be more of a relocation to another job

I have been out on my own for 15 or 16 months and life is good.

I spent the last year at work trying to get fired (better benefits) but my boss wouldn't do it, so I had to just plain old retire.

Congratulations!!!!! Nice to hear about it and how happy you are.

I sometimes look forward to retirement, but then don't really know what it is, or if I ever will stop working. After leaving the rat race and going to work for myself, my outlook on life has totally changed. Now it's not work, it's helping people out and getting paid for it. A very big win-win way of life.

The one thing that I find attractive about retirement and not having to work in order to survive is the ability to try new things and not worry about how much money you make. I've always heard of people who do this and stumble onto something that they had no idea of and really enjoyed it.

There are all sorts of websites for retirees on things to try and oportunities. I met a guy at a gym back when I lived in California who traveled the world as a carrier. His flights and hotels were paid for. Sometimes his wife also went as a carrier, other times they paid for her flight. That always seemed like a fun way to see the world for very little money and still have lots of time off.
