OMG, it's all scratched up and dirty!

That's what about fifteen years has done to it.
Yeah, see what happens when you don't keep the paint up on your splitter? It winds up costing you to shell out for a newer tractor!:D

I had a Chief 4 x 24 Hyd cyllinder shipped to me from Surplus Center.....Not a scratch. Surplus center at least cares about their customers.

I bought my 4 x 24 at tractor supply, looked great when I picked it up off the shelf.
but i agree, get a can of spraypaint and be done with it.

I agree on painting it unless there is something functionally wrong with it. It sounds like you knew about the probability of it getting beat up before you ordered. The CSR you originally talked to about making sure it was well packaged likely had little control over that.

By the way, Baileys lists a similar size surplus cylinder for a good price.

Where are the good deals on cylinders that fit metric mounts?

Just about every cyl will list the measurements like this. You just need to find one that will fit the mounts, or modify to fit. .

Rod End Clevis
Outside Width 2.38"
Inside Width 1.13"
Throat Depth 2.1"
Pin Hole 1"
Base End Clevis
Outside Width 2.63"
Inside Width 1.13"

Hi JJ. I started measuring the cylinders on my old Cub Cadet's loader and my LS's. It turns out that the CC's 417 loader is probably a Woods 162, and everything is in inches. The LS's rods and ends are all in even metrics. You know from another thread that I have power issues with this LS loader, mostly due to leverage and design. Any mods I can make to improve it will mean changing cylinders, but the mounts are all metric. They are all crosstube mounts. I haven't gotten at the pins to get an accurate measure or taken them apart. They are special bolts, fitted with zerks, with locknuts, and I'm guessing they won't be one inch.

Anyway, it doesn't look like there is any supplier like those that have been linked here that offer these metric sizes. It seems that the only thing universal about the cylinders is the plumbing.

Maybe this site can help. They have some Metric stock, but in talking to the tech dept, they say that if you measure in Metric, there is probably something equivalent in In.

I know some of my tubes call for 1 in, but just will not work. Had to use a 15/16 rod for the pin.

Rod ends and mount holes can be cut down or re-designed to fit, just depends on how much you are willing to go.
