Hooking Up PTO Shaft w/ Land Pride Quick Hitch and Top & Tilt

/ Hooking Up PTO Shaft w/ Land Pride Quick Hitch and Top & Tilt #11
My method is to part about a foot away from the implement, hook up the shaft using the extra room available, then back up the rest of the way to the implement.

The PTO end of the shaft is not too bad with a push button or rotating release. I really don't like those that I have to pull a release ring back as I try to push the joint forward. Luckily, I've only found those on other people's equipment.

Hey! Best idea I've heard in years. For no good reason I have always hooked up the tractor 3pt first and then wrestled the PTO. Only issue might be the drive shaft coming apart in the middle with some degree of nuisance mating that back together when you back up closer the implement. Even that goes away if you pull the shaft outward and see how much inner/outer shaft overlap is available before parking the tractor close enough for it to reach but leaving yourself extra room. This should be a huge help. Thanks much for the posting. All those years of fighting it without ever trying your method !! -- Hit self up side of head.

BTW, I have some of all 3 types of releases. The ring-pull-back type is the worst like you said & should be abolished!

I had the same problem with my Yanmar tractor and Landpride cutter. No room to get in their plus hold everything in place and pull back on that ring. Man did I get Peeved!
I finally removed the shield around the pto on the tractor.

That helps (on my Massey Ferguson the shield is hinged and will fold up out of the way) but even then these can be a bugger to connect. Peeved is an understatement.

I keep a bungee cord on the tractor that I can hold the shield up with while fighting with the PTO shaft.

You got that right it took me 6 hours one day to hook that thing up. Had to wait til my wife got home to help me. I was so pissed! That's what made me take off the shield.
There was just no room to maneuver once I had the quick hitch in place
