I wonder if you took the alternator or the generator to a rebuild shop if they wouldn't be able to tell if it was positive or negative ground.

Mine looks like the lower right picture, so it's an alternator. I presume the positive lead from the battery is the one that should be headed to the alternator.

When I have a chance, I can head out and also check the lead to the points, per an earlier suggestion.

OK, I'm hoping the solenoid is connected to the alternator to eliminate any doubt in my mind. I only disconnected the end of the cable at the battery, so the other end should still be in the right place. :thumbsup:
