What kind of tractor & loader do you have ? I have a Kubota B7800 , it came with a chain loop/hook mount. But I added a 2x2 piece of tubing under the top edge of the bucket & added a hook made like the top hook on a 3pt qiuck hitch. This is in the middle of the bucket , I use it to move 3pt equipment with out having to use the 3pt hitch . This is also good for loading extra equip. on the trailer . But the hooks are a great idea . Just remember to use ballist / something to keep the rear wheels on the ground..Hooks at northern tool item # 127758-2201 , 3/8 weld-on grab hook $9.99 . You may find them at agri-supply, tractor supply, and maybe harbor freight. Good luck and injoy.

I have a new Mahindra max 22 and I got some hooks to bolt on. Foung them at TSC today. Will be for light duty work but I do have ballast.

We traded our machine, hooks and all, and need to put hooks on the new one.

On the old one we had a grab hook in the center.

Our plan for the new one is 5 hooks.

We plan to put one grab hook (5/16") in each end of the bucket like RoyJackson said. Then we are going to put one in the center of the bucket, but set further back instead of on the front edge (the way the bucket is made there is a good spot).

Then we will weld two 5/16" slip hooks about 18" from the center on the front of the bucket.

The slip hooks will allow us to use the chain for things that we need to have the chain still be able to have movement. Also, we can use the center grab hook in conjunction with the slip hooks for when we need the chain held but need the connection points a bit further apart.

I have a QA bucket so I bought a blank QA plate. I welded grab hooks,D rings and am putting a receiver hitch on it for moving trailers. I also put hooks on my bucket but like the plate since I don't have the weight of the bucket in addition to what I'm lifting. If there's any interest I'll post some pics in a few days.

My old tractor had a hook on the ends of the buckets...used it for over 14 years without any issues.

My new tractor has hooks in 4 places. 2 in front of the lift arms and 2 on the outside edge. the outside edge ones are used to help keep loads from rotating more so than for lifting or pulling. I added double layers of 3/8" steel plate (inside and outside) of bucket for added support for the hooks AND for the 2-5/16" trailer ball.

I did a post about 1 year ago about this same issue, and i took the majorities view as the proper placement of the hooks.

You can buy weldable hooks at any tractor dealer, and also at most welding supply stores.

Had my hooks on a week and used it today for the first time to pull a 10' tree trunk out of my lake today...water logged (no pun intended) and at least a few hundred pounds and the center hook alone did fine...

i had an old hitch that had been torched off of a truck, so i cut the center of the receiver out and welded it to a larger plate so the force would be spread out on the top of the bucket. i put a piece of old pipe under the lip of the bucket and plug and stitch welded it to the bucket for reinforcement. this is also very handy for moving trailers around - i just throw a drawbar in and i can hook up to a trailer without getting off the tractor.

Here's a good location for hooks on a Deere bucket.....right in line with the cylinders. The bucket attachment plates provide a good place for the hooks.

My light duty bucket has been re-enforced along both sides and the top with weldments just like the heavy duty buckets....and has a bolt-on tooth bar. The receiver hitch is handy for moving trailers and provides another location to hook onto.

I've mounted a receiver hitch on the bucket center of a few machines. The advantage is you can use a chain hook, or a shackle, or a draw bar, whatever. To get the maximum available lift from a FEL, you can even reverse the hook out the back of the receiver and pull from behind the bucket (more in line with the pivot)- but obviously you don't have a lot of room to work with so close to the tractor's front end.

Of course....there's always Ken's bolt-on hooks - if you don't have a welder. This is where my SIL put his - right in-line with the cylinders. (He knows he should not lift super heavy loads without having re-reinforcement on his bucket.)

This has been an un-solicited endorsement of a fine product: Ken's bucket hooks. (nice product Kennyd ;) )

Not exactly hooks, but here's a 10-year old picture of my bucket. The slots accept 3/8" chain. The angle rests against the lip of the bucket. It doesn't look that new anymore but they work great. Extra chain can be slung through the slots and drapes to keep it out of the way.
