Stopped at the dealer today and they will weld on three hooks for a small fee so will go with that. Their head mechanic advised me to be careful using the hooks on the end because it could warp the FEL. He stated the weight had to be evenly distributed or just use the center hook.

Two directly in front of the loader arms is what they weld on buckets around here, they won't weld them on the ends, liability I guess.. Bending, tiping over etc..

Good deal. And yeah omy welded hooks are in front of my loaders arms, but I still make sure the weight is even or use the center D ring like he's saying. You'll be glad you have them.

so when welding on the bucket (or other) do you disconnect battery terminal(s) and/ or alternator connection?
or just use a good ground connection?

Safest bet, just unhook from it

If I was to do it, I would remove the battery connections, these things are all electronic these days..

I have a slip hook in the center and grab hooks on each side of both my buckets for that very reason. He is telling you correctly. You want to pull centered.

Just make sure GROUND CLAMP is firmly secured to item (bucket) you are welding on.... Disconnecting battery and such is probably extra but unneeded effort.... Check out what guys say in Welding Forum....

Any good welding manual will tell you to always put ground close as possible to where actual weld will occur... It does not mean put ground clamp on 3PH if you welding on FEL because 3PH is most convenient location...

If it’s a QA bucket as most are nowadays, just take it off the loader.
