Just about everybody here recommends bucket hooks. What do you do with 'em? I mean, some things are obvious; I'd like to hear about uses you (and I) might not have thought of.

Hook chains to em for lifting and pulling stuff.

Some time ago by chance I happened to find this in my
loader owner's manual:

"Never lift of pull any load from any point of the
loader with a chain, rope, or cable. Doing so could
cause a roll over or serious damage to the loader."

Though I've done so, the real issue is putting excess
stress on the loader cylinders which unless the
bucket is floating and driven against either roll
back or dump stop risks exceeding the pressure
design limits of the cylinder/hose/tubing/valve
as there is no relief present in this mode.

I've gotten into the habit of rolling the bucket back
to the stop, running the chain under the bucket and
attaching it to the bucket's back. Doing so transmits
the load to the loader frame directly rather than
through the bucket cylinders.

You can still manage to transmit load to the boom
cylinders however that varies with the sin of the angle
which is quite small with the bucket near the ground
in the above scenario.

I moved a huge dog house with mine. Slipped the bucket under one end, hooked a chain around the house and attached to the bucket, curled, lifted, and moved it.

Without chaining it in, it wouldn't have stayed in the bucket.

Yes using chains hooked to the bucket for pulling and lifting can be dangerous. Just keep it low or don't drive with the load hanging high. It is best to do this kind of thing on level ground. Having something heavy hooked to a raised bucket will raise the center of gravity of the tractor and make it more prone to overturn.

I have always conditioned myself while working with the FEL that if anything goes amiss I immediately hit the boom float position. It brings the load, & the rear of the tractor down real quick and just might save you from an embarrassing situation. I know it did for me. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Raising the center of gravity is a separate issue. My concern was to avoid
transmitting excessive load to the roll cylinders as can happen when chains
are attached to the top of the loader bucket and the torque of the tractor
is applied.

I've witnessed broken rods in backhoe cylinders when the torque of the
tractor was used to exceed that which the backhoe could develop/sustain.

agreed with the above posts. keeping the loader LOW when pulling is the key. I welding on my hooks this past weekend. been 2 years with the tractor and just now did it... Biggest thing is that it makes pulling logs out of brush and picking up odd angled items in the bucket much easier than attempting to hook up to the bucket some other way. I've got some big rocks that are odd shaped and will not fit into the bucket to STAY put when moving them, add a chain around it and hook it so that when you CURL the bucket it tightens the cfhian and HOLDs the load in the bucket is why I put mine on, like some one said perfict for moving a dog house. just be sure the load is not too heavy to lift and you are ok to go....

I'm looking for an OLD 3 point reciever hitch fomr a truck / car to weld onto the top of the center of the bucket. I will then make up ends for the 2" or 3" square tube so that I can attach grapple fingers to the top edge adn the reciever hitch will reinforce the top edge of the bucket and use the center reciever part for adding trailer pulling or center mount for the grapple actuator and center fingers.

This is the only use I happen to have a picture of.

I have 5 grab hooks & 3 receivers on this bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Pulling shubs and dragging logs are my primary uses. I also use the hooks with chains to transport unwieldy items. Here's a pick of the use of chains on my 2210 transporting an "unwieldy item."
