Horse Apples! What caused the bumper crop.

Never heard of them being called horse apples.
What are referred to as "horse apples" around here are a substance of an entirely different nature. (Hint: they come out of horses)

Here's a "couple" pix. They were planted by the thousands in the Midwest after the "Dirty Thirties" to stop wind erosion. They are known as hedge rows in these parts and many still exist.

We had a bumper crop of 17-year cicadas this year, but few pecans and acorns. Osage Orange trees are rare around here.

We had the 17 year cicadas here as well. Couldn't keep those suckers off my beehives this year.
