Horse barn wiring

I got a quote for some electrical work, and I think I'll try to do some of it myself. I'll leave the breaker box to the professional.

I've got a horse barn with 10 stalls, six on one side and four on the other. I want to upgrade the fluorescent lights to HO, total of 10, and put in receptacles above each stall for plugging in box fans and for things like hair clippers/vacuum cleaners, etc.

I want to combine the receptacles and lights into six circuits; one reason is to reduce the run of conduit and the other is to be able to switch the lights on set by set.

I'm going to try to post the diagrams for the wiring../w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif.

The first diagram shows the barn, the stalls (four on top, six on bottom), the fluorescent lights (blue w/white) and receptacles (orange) and wiring (orange).

The four in the middle are all the same setup; the one in front and the one in back only have a single fluorescent light.

I'm not sure why the attachment didn't show up, but I'll try the second one here..

It shows the wiring. Six circuits - each with switch, 12/2 wire from box to switch, 12/3 wire from switch to junction box located between a pair of lights and receptacles, 12/2 wire from junction box to each light and to each receptacle.

Hopefully this configuration means that the receptacles are always live and the lights are switched. There is a jumper in the switch to connect the black (coming from the box) to the red (which is a 'second' black.. for the receptacles).

Don't be afraid to do the breakers yourself as well. They are really just as easy as wiring an outlet. Just make sure the main breaker is off and be careful what you touch. The black wire goes to the breaker and the white and ground go to the neutral grounding bar. No need to pay an electrician just to do that. Good Luck !

Sorry for the little off topic post here, but it is a electrical question. I recently ran a 2wire line to a 220vpump, so I don't have a neutral line, just 2 hot and a ground. Is it possible to(as I think it is) to take a 110v line off the wire by just taking one hot and a ground to another line for, say a switched light?? After all this is AC and not DC.

You would not want to connect your 110v circuit like that. The ground wire in the cable is meant to be an emergency conductor only. If you connect a circuit between one hot wire and the ground wire the ground would be conducting power all the time. Not a safe situation.
