Horse drawn plow - unknown history

That is a good looking plow. Ride on horse or mule drawn plows not very common here. Can sure see why that 45 degree wheel would be needed on it. I have used a mule drawn turn plow now about 50 years back and not much but can say don't miss it. But best I remember liked it better than running a sweep.

What year would you think the plow was based on the photos and part number markings. Thanks.

cmiller1961, There's a guy in Ohio who sells old plows and parts on Craigslist. Here's a link to one of his adds. Oliver one bottom plow - farm & garden - by owner - sale
If you select 'Reply' and 'Show Phone Number' at the top of the ad, you can see the number. He might be willing to take a look at a picture to help identify your plow. Disclaimer - I know nothing about this seller, but he has plows and parts listed all the time.

I`ve not seen one like that, this side of the pond, although it is similar to a steam traction plough. With steam traction, you had a steam traction engine at each end of the field, and they had a long wire cable connected to the plough on cable drum. One engine pulled it one way, and the other pulled it back. Many had more than one plough shear, some were two way, where-by a tilting method would leave a different set of shears to do the return trip. A `driver` would ride to monitor the depth.

My online search has brought me to the conclusion that this is most likely a 1890's - 1900 Rock Island Sulky plow from the Rock Island Plow Co.

Thoughts??? Does anyone have knowledge of this company's plows?

I poked around and ran across this link to an interesting story of the early plows. Led from a Court fight with Deere that was decided by the Supreme Court, and on to some early farm equipment names. Early tractor beginnings such as the Farmall and the Minneapolis-Molines. Included Willys-Overland beginnings as well. Very interesting read.
