Horse fence questions

I have a question about pulling wire tight. I use my lawn tractor to pull the wire then I cut it after attaching it to the corner wood post. Is there a better way?

I like using a come-a-long. Rather than planting additional posts, though, I just put my truck where it needs to be and pull off that. The come-a-long gives me a little more control IMHO.

If you're pulling a single strand, twist a good loop into it to hook to the come-a-long. If you're pulling field wire or some similar pre-fab' fence, sandwich the ends between some 2x4's and bolt them together. Then hook the come-a-long to the 2x4's (another loop of wire works, but there's probably something more professional).
