I contacted RB Rubber, http://www.rbrubber.com/, they are a horse rubber mat manufacture, about getting a thicker mat. If you did not want to buy a large mat this may be another option.

The was the reply

Tom,

The thickest mat we manufacture is 3/4" thick. You could "glue" two mats together to make up a 1.5. Each section of 3/4" x 8" x 48" will be $5.34 FOB Oregon. You will need our Sico-Met glue to fuse the mats together which runs $10.00 per oz, one once covers 30 lineal feet. The freight charges will be based on the amount of matting you purchase.
The other option you have is to contact a conveyor belt company and see if they have remnants available in the thickness and length you will need.
Good Luck and let me know if I can help.
Sincerely,

I want to add the rubber to the bottom of my FEL, I do not think ¾" will be enough to clear the bolt heads, gluing a second piece on it another possible solution. Got to see if I can find a local source for that Sico-Mat glue.

thank you, the 3/4 inch mat is very interesting, will call them tomorrow.

I would be interested in how you plan on adding this to your FEL. Have you decided how you are going to attach it?

I just ordered a 7foot x 1/2inch x 6 inche peice of high density plastic cutting edge specifically designed for scraper use (manure scraping and snowplow edges etc). Cost was $53 from Northbrook Farms. Their # was 877 624 2638, think the salseman was "Randy". Said the stuff was bulletproof and would hold up for a long time. Re the mays coming in bigger sizes - I have them in all 4 of our horse stalls and they are HEAVY. Wouldn't want to have to lug one around that's bigger than 4 x 6.

Bob,

I was thinking of drilling about 4-6 holes in the bottom of the bucket and counter sinking the heads of the bolts in to the rubber mat. If the grove is deep enough on the mat I may use that area to place the bolts into. Then I was thinking of gluing the other piece of mat on top of the bolts, or interlocking the groves together and then gluing. I am open to suggestions if anyone has any other thoughts or has been down this road before.

We're doing a project now that involves using a "people" elevator to move materials up and down over the next 4 months. We lined the walls with OSB, and were trying to figure out what to use to protect the 58" X 87" floor. After making several phone calls, I found a local supplier who just happened to have a 60" X 144" piece of heavy duty conveyor belt remnant. He sold it to me for $139 (he told me the price was only for the part I needed, not all 12'). We hauled it back to our shop for trimming it down to size, and I told the guys in the shop DO NOT trash the leftover belt. It is a little better than 1/2" thick and quite tough. One of the guys cut off what we needed for the elevator neatly with a carbide-tipped blade in a circular saw.............chim

Use a greater quantity of smaller bolts (1/4-20, #10 or even #8) That way you can countersink within the 3/4" Saves you the hassle & expense of gluing.

Off the top of my head 6-10 small screws sounds about right. I can do a shear stress calculation if you really want me to/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Be sure to use washers, preferably "fender" washers

great idea. maybe if you cut slots up and down, you could just loosen the bolts and slide it down a bit, instead of having to remove it and flip it

I found a truck tire recap on the side of the road, about 3/4" thick. Bolted to front of blade of cub cadet. Tried it on dry rough concrete and didnt leave a mark. Will try it out tomorrow night, snow in the forcast.
