Horse Mat for Soft Snow Blade Edge

I put a 4" strip of rubber belting on ATV 60" snow blade last November and it works great. We put in a new concrete driveway in August an I was paranoid about scraping it up. I removed the cutting edge and put the rubber against the blade and bolted the cutting edge back over it. The rubber extends only about and inch below the bottom of the blade. We get quite abit of snow here in MI and it realy did a nice job without any scratches. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wonder how a piece of the synthetic wood TREX would work.

Trex has very little structural strength and would crack quickly. I used it on my deck 8 years ago.

I used a piece of horse mat myself and it has enough resiliency to bend and "scrape" the ground, but is stiff enough to remove the snow.

The price of a horse mat is cheaper than the price of TREX.
I paid $23.50 for a 6 X 8, 3/4 horse mat. This will give me about 4 replacement edges.

If your concrete has ridges they would very quickly wear right through Trex. But before that would happen you would probably break off chunks of it whenever you encountered any rock frozen to the surface or any other surface irregularity. Trex gets its strength from the glue holding the wood fibres and plastic together. It quickly loses strength as it gets colder. I have some on both my porches, and I'm not very impressed with its strength or scratch resistance.

I use the horse mat on my backblade and it works very well for dry snow, but if it's wet heavy snow or icy, I have to take the mat off and use the metal edge to cut down through the snow to the concrete. It is nice to the gravel part of my driveway though, as it doesn't tear up the gravel as bad as the metal blade.
