Horse Trailer/RV wiring

I will be redoing the "dressing room" on my goose neck horse trailer this summer. I want to wire it like a RV with bateries that will be recharged from the towing vehicle. I believe by ford has a circuit that will only allow charging while the truck is running but I know that usually there's something in the RV also (instead of). My truck does have the tow package with the RV trailer light plug.

Does any one know how to, or know of a good book or web site that will show how to do this wiring? I'm fine with doing all the rest of the wiring

You will have to take into accout the truck charging system can only charge so much, so if you use the trailer batteries alot then recharging them from the truck will take a long time.

Your truck will have a 12v circuit to the trailer plug. You may want to check your owners manual, because you might need to put a relay or fuse in. I did. As far as the trailer end, you just need to run the 12v line to the positive side of the battery, with either a fuse or a relay. As with all trailers, make sure you have a good dedicated ground wire on both vehicles, don't count on grounding through the ball mount.

I havn't seen many charge systems onmodern trucks under 30a.. and most of them double that.

That's a whole lotta surpluss charge past what the trucks electrical needs.

I guess what you need to defina 'a long time'. if a long time is less than 30 minutes.. then yep.. it's gonna take a long time.. etc..
