You are a very lucky person for not shooting the dog for one reason alone you were drinking he would have owned your entire farm because your judgement was impaired disentangle matter if your defending a bank or store you been drinking your going to jail discharging a fire arm

Gosh darn it guys, a man's got to do what a mans got to do to defend his property, loved ones and pets.

That said, for some reason after going through this entire thread, I am more thankful than ever to live in my little neck of the woods and have the neighbors I have;)

It never fails there is always a few that dont read an entire thread and think they know it all with a couple words taken out here and there and want to change an entire thread to suit them.

Nearly had to shoot a dog last nite in my back yard we were sitting by the pond drinking a beer when the wife hollers "dog alert big dog"!

I jump up and run around there and yup a big hyper acting dog and 3 horses and some clown with ropes in his hand walking up all on my private property stomping all over my grass or whats left of it from the drought.

Long story short after a lot of cussing and hollering by me and my wife at the clown and the animals and even with a sheriffs deputy there they wouldn't get that dog under control we could see it wasn't a mean dog twords people at least he was just super hyper.

The clown with the lead ropes trying to catch the 3 horses kept saying the dog goes with the horses - I said none of them belong on my property get them the **** out of here now!

The horses walked all over my late season corn and ate some of it too oh I was smokin mad by then well clown finally caught all of them and headed walking them down the road. The last thing I said to the deputy was if that dog takes after one of my cats I will shoot it she nods.

Just like I feared I see him take off like a streak twords my back yard where my big white 25# half blind and half deaf house cat was sitting with us on the table out at the pond gazebo minding his own business and enjoying being outside with us while we are off dealing with this other mess had to leave him alone we were both worried sick about it he was completely unaware of the dog.

I take off too as fast as I can hollering at the top of my lungs and when I round the corner of the house I see him and he is after one of my outside cats so soon as I get a clean shot I skid to a stop and put a .45 round into the dirt in front of his nose.

He stops all startled and isn't sure what to do while I run up waving and hollering and make him go the other way away from the pond area and he leaves my yard then finally. I find out later the deputy picks it up on the road in the patrol car and then follows the clown down the road slowly to where they belong.

The deputy comes back later and asks if I want to press charges and I say no but the guy with the dog can thank his lucky stars for me being an animal lover and not shooting to kill when his dog chased my cat which we warned everybody over and over about and what would happen if he did and he did it I gave him a choice he made the right move and left.

Now the story would have been different if he would have not stopped and /or would have turned 20 feet behind me where my big white kitty was sitting minding his own business then it would have been lights out for the dog with no hesitation or feelings of compassion for animals just preservation of the weak and helpless like it should be done.

Poor old big happy kitty never even heard the pistol go off 50 feet away from him luckily and stayed put, the deputy heard it and the whole neighborhood did also and all the hollering and commotion what a mess deputy and the clown was probably relieved to see the dog out on the road alive.

Whatever buddy. You're the tough guy.

Things like this happen in the country. Big deal.

It's funny...You often hear how neighborly it is living in the country. Everyone willing to help everyone. Then, there are people in the country who just don't get it.

Go figure.

I see you didn't read the thread just the first post that is what figures I just got done making my comment on that!

With that said you are welcome to your opinion the same as I am and the fact is I wasn't the one trespassing and destroying someones property. Matters none where it happens country or city its the same and further more had the clown got a handle on the loose dog there would have been no problem at all.

As hard as that is to understand for some not everyone likes stray dogs in their yard and especially when the person assuming the responsibility for it wont control it.

Go figure. And if you want to sit at your keyboard and say you would let a stray dog run around your back yard knowing you had a defenseless pet out there and not defend it tells me you sir are NOT a tough guy you make me sick!

You people who believe you can and everyone else can do what they want to other people property just because its out of city limits are the problem period.

I dont trespass I ask permission to be somewhere or I say out and if I happen to be in a situation where I am out of bounds I respect the land owners wishes if I am asked something.

Correct, I didn't read the thread. I read your original post and commented on that.

Apparently you have never had a dog get away from you. Or, a horse.

And by the way...I don't mind stray dogs in my yard at all. It's stray cats that I don't like.:D

Animals get loose. It just happens from time to time.
