Make any difference what size hose I use?
Cat II 3pt. 3" cylinder. As short as these hoses will be cost is not the deciding factor.
So 1/4", 3'8" or 1/2" ?

I have 3/8 and it is plenty.

I would use the 1/4 inch hose in a effort to slow down the flow of oil so the cylinder wont move too fast. I would also install flow restrictors in the lines if I could find some. I had no luck finding any locally the last time I wanted some.

1/4 in hose and a needle valve.

My rear SCVs, JD deluxe 301 series made by Husco, have built in flow control. Will that be enough with 1/4" hoses?

Probably. Connect up the 1/4 in hose and try it.

My JD 3rd SCV kit has the huge back hoe quick couplers, not sure on the hose but is definitely bigger than 1/4". There must be some type flow restriction in the system somewhere cause it doesn't move to quickly, very much in control. Could just be the cylinder.
When I hooked up a truck's snow plow to the rear remotes, even though they have 1/4" fittings the plow moved so fast I could do an NHL slap shot!

Mine are 3/8" and I should of used 1/4". I'm putting a needle valve on it to slow it down.

I have flow restrictors, $10 ea + shipping. Install right behind your male quick connect end. 1/2" pipe thread.

You will find that most hose kits use 3/8" hose. 1/4" usually flexes better than the rest though.

The flow requirement will be quite low so it shouldn't matter which hose you use.

The JD 301 deluxe SCV is pressure compensated which means if you use a needle valve or install a flow restrictor all you will succeed in doing is pushing up the pressure and burning more fuel, unless you hit the max system pressure, then you will start to reduce flow.

There are two ways to reduce flow effieciently:
1) as you suggested, use the flow control knob - this works under pressure and goes from nr 0-100+ lpm
2) don't stroke the spool fully, it is proportional so can be feathered to give the speed you want.

Hope this helps
