Hello all, Sorry for the cylinder spelling, missed the n.
I recently purchased a gc2610 used with 200hrs. I have bush hogged a 2.5 acre field 3 feet deep with no issue. The tractor hydraulics for the fel work fine for the size of the tractor however the bucket will creep how much creep is normal on this tractor. The big issue is the backhoe, I used it to dig out a very large stump and it worked great. I started digging a gas line trench 20inches deep in the rockiest ground I have ever seen. I got about 30 feet and the boom cylinder started spraying fluid from the rod seal. The power was fine, just loosing fluid like crazy. I bought the rebuild kit and rebuilt it with out issue and it works fine. The issue I have is it appears to have lost power in the dipper when retracting it. The boom, swing and bucket all have great power, the dipper has power extending but not retracting. I hand checked the temp on all the cylinders, the all are about the same. I can hold my hand on them after very heavy use but they are very very hot.
Question is , how hot is to hot, is this normal, and because of the extremely rocky digging ( some rocks 1.5 feet around and not a stitch of soil, all stone) is this dipper performance normal?
Thanks for the help.

can't comment in your loss of power in the dipper cylinder, I've been digging a trench thru some pretty tough (dry) clay the last few days with my Kubota BX24, and yes, the cylinders get HOT... not so hot they burn your hand, but pretty uncomfortable to hold on for more than a couple seconds. I suspect that's normal.

Thanks Pete,
Agree about the cylinders, can hold my hand on the but uncomfortably hot. Aslo, just dug another 40 feet and could place my hand on the hydro, about the same temp so I have to assume its ok. The last 15 feet was just dirt and small rooks and it worked great. Perhaps I am asking for big machine performace out of this little girl

thats the probably the biggest problem... these little tractors are made for ease. Its better than a shovel and a wheel barrow. they have made alot of us spoiled and forget what they really are. they are gloriefied HD lawn tractors.

With that said, these little tractors don't have an heat exhanger or a hyd oil cooler to disapate the heat. So the hyd system is going to be warm, especially in this heat and with the machine doing alot of work.

These BH are heavy duty for the size and can do more than you think, They are not excavators however. They are cooled by the fan on the drive shaft so that will help dissipate heat. I think the reason it's getting so hot could be because of a crushed o ring or something constricting flow on this cylinder only. I also wonder if there may be an air pocket.

I'm guessing at the pump efficiency but I believe it's on the order of ~70% +/-. What ever it is, 1.0 - 0.7 is 0.3. That means that 30% of the power input shows up as heat in the fluid. As you continue to work the machine you generate more and more heat in the fluid. That means the pump, the reservior, the lines, the valves, and the cylinders get hot. Eventually they reach some steady state tempearture that is> than the ambient temperture. That's normal. Most hydraulic fluids, seals and hoses, etc are at least good to 200-225ーF so unless your temps are greater than that you should be good to go.
As far as a lack of power in a retract, if you have "directional seals" (seals that seal in a particular direction)you may have bad seal that's not sealing in that direction only.

Hydraulics generate a lot of heat. I built a log splitter 10hp, 22 gpm pump with a 20 gallon oil tank.
When I have 2 or more helpers and work it hard the system will get very hot, touching it for more than a second or two is impossible.
Heat (to a point) is actually good as it drives moisture out of the system and allows antiwear additives to become active.
I also agree that you may be working it beyond it's design limits and that a seal may be leaking internally.

Thanks, I am looking for a bigger unit. This little massey just isnt what I expected. I had a jd4110 that was only 19 hp that performed far better. Totally different chassy and hydraulics. Perhaps a massey 1526/29.

Have you changed the hyd filter to see if that helps. I used a GC2610 to dig up a sewer line about 5' deep in heavy clay and it did great.

Hi jeremy, yes fluid, filter changed and stainer cleaned. I am digging a foundation in dirt, clay and stone, other than hot cylinders, all of them, it is doing ok. I do believe I am expecting to much from it.
