I assume your referring to a submersible pump. I have put in hundreds of them and never heard of one that is tightened that way. We used 14" pipe wrenches on the smaller pumps and cranked on them. There were a few that came with a plastic discharge and they would crack. The easy way around that was to not buy them.Put in a new pump in the well Thursday. Get to take out tomorrow because I over tightened the fitting on the pump. Instructions for the new pump forgot to explain this. Goes on like a oil filter hand tight and one more turn. It runs but the back flow preventer is trapped and no water. Seems like the instructions would mention this. Trouble shooter for the factory says that is how he keeps his job.
