Thanks Mike. Yeah, I saw the Shhhh... thread. I was seriously interested in the 2210 until I stumbled across TBN and learned about the 2305. Then the 2320 and 2520. Since I wasn't quite ready to buy anyway, further thinking makes wonder what the 2320 has to offer. I've seen the specs for the 2520, so I'm hoping the 2320 has all I'm looking for... basically a 2305 with a larger frame, bigger tires, more pump and close to the same weight.

two factors to consider as weight goes up. first, the weight is usually spread over a larger contact patch, so it minimizes the effect of the additional weight on the turf. Second, you will tend to grow into the machine, usually they seem smaller after you own them.

Of course, that is NO EXCUSE for my not producing ANY info on the 2320

Ok - A dumb question,

I always hear that PTO HP is the "true measure" in comparing the real work that get's done. Yet the new 2520 is basically the same PTO HP versus the 4115 even though both the HP and displacement are larger. So how should this be interpreted? Is it a less efficient engine in that it only delivers same HP to PTO even with larger displacement? I notice they are rated at 2600 vs 2650 rpm. Does 50 rpms make that much difference on the power curves? I'm sure the 2520 engine is better, but how? Much quieter??

I think that the new engines are better in many ways, but are less efficient. They are using larger displacement engines to achieve similar Hp ratings. Also there is a transmission involved. If the pto Hp changes, it may be due to inefficiencies in the transmission.

None of these specs are official, and even then could change.
And there is nothing dumb about your question.

The new engines are Tier 2 compliant. They are a major new design for the more stringent emmissions standards.

To show my point, I went to Yanmar's site. Well, I had a sh/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifck!

Here is what I found at Yanmar for industrial applications... (3000rpm)
What's up? Deere's numbers are very different!

In each of the following groups, I list the engine specs from Yanmar and then JD. First in the new engines/tractors, then the old models.

I wonder if Deere is purposely derating the engines? I realize that these are at differant engine speeds, but the numbers are still not proportional, ALL the new Deere's are significantly lowered compared to the old models...

here are the performance charts from Yanmar, I don't see a big difference in power, although there is a nice bump in the torque curve...
