How are the hydraulic\'s connected on a BH90?

Just returned from my Kubota dealer after pricing a BH90 backhoe. Got a price $7000.00 for the backhoe, subframe and 18 inch bucket. I asked how the hydraulic's were interfaced with the tractor (L3430/ 723 FEL)would it run from the PTO (my preference) or from the tractor itself.
That's when they said there would be another $900.00 for the hydraulic connection. Rear remote type if I understood him correctly.
I have read many messages here and don't recall seeing anyone else having to do this. (Long time lurker)

So the question is how are the hydraulic's connected from the tractor to the bachoe?

$7000.00 is more than I need to spend on something I want, but $7900.00 makes it real hard to justfy.

Thanks

spock The BH90 runs off the tractors hyd pump. The hoses connect to the same hyd block that your fel hoses connect too. The hoses come with the kit. The hoses run from the hyd block to the back of the tractor.

Re: How are the hydraulic\'s connected on a BH90?

Then since I already have a FEL, $900.00 seems kind of high for a couple of hoses and quick disconnect.
Thats what I thought.
Perhaps the salesman I talked to is a little confused instead of me this time.

Any idae how much this kit cost? Or does it come with the BH90?

Thanks for the reply

Hi...

Spock... I don't see where your located...

The Kubota dealer I'm buying from in west/central Vermont is selling me the BH90 with 18" bucket totally hooked up to an L3130 for about $7,000 total...

...but... I am buying the whole deal new...

Re: How are the hydraulic\'s connected on a BH90?

Dave, I filled in my bio (again).

So as I understand it the hyd. connections for the BH90 come with the hoe. (Hoses, fittings etc needed to connect to some location near my FEL connections?)
Which makes since, at least to me.

I am hoping he made a mistake.

$7000.00 is a little more than I wanted to spend on an attachment that may have limited use, but $7900.00 is a deal breaker.
Besides the CFO is going to have a cow when I explain to her I really gotta have a backhoe.

Thanks

Hi...

I'll asume the rear hydraulic connections are dealer added and not standard since tractors come w/o backhoes...

A smaller and less expensive 7 1/2' backhoe for the Kubota may meet your needs... 3 brands I know of are Kubota... Woods... Bradco...

Dave...
they may be PTO powered though...

Re: How are the hydraulics connected on a BH90?

My personal preference with the BH90 is a pto driven pump. Prince makes a pump and I believe Kubota uses it.

The cycle times will be faster with the pto pump, besides, it separates the tractor hydraulic system from the hoe. I always worry about cross-contamination as well as a failure of or hose separation while operating the hoe. With an integral system, you run the risk of loosing your hydraulic fluid in the tractor that you may be unaware of while operating the hoe. This is a personal observation.

I would believe that the $900.00 price is the price for the external pump as well as the accompanying reservoir.

Re: How are the hydraulic\'s connected on a BH90?

Dave

I've asked about the brands you mentioned and their prices are close to the Kubota BH90. Kinda like to stay with Kubota for several reasons, warranty, designed for my tractor, colors would match etc.

As for a smaller unit, I might as well get the one with the most reach and power to start with. So getting a backhoe too small would only frustrate me further.

Since this is my first tractor I am finding all kind of things to do with it. And the L3430 is a little small for some of the tasks I am attempting.

BTW it's a great machine. Put over a 100 hours on it this spring and summer, and that's with me only using it on Saturday's.

I guess the reason for this post is figure out if the salesman made a mistake or not.

Thanks again

Re: How are the hydraulic\'s connected on a BH90?

When buying my L3130 and Woods 9000 I went with the rear remote vs PTO pump. The price was a wash either way.

Did this for a few reasons.
1. Didn't want the mess with a PTO shaft on the BH.
2. Can use the remote for other things like a HTL.
3. Cheaper to add blocks later for other stuff.
4. There is more fluid and cooling in the tractor vs the tank.

The PTO pump, in my case, had more GPM 9 vs 8.3. Not sure it makes much diff though. Can't remember for sure but thought it was another $725 to do either.

To add.....
I would not have been happy with a smaller BH either. Went with 12 and 24" buckets. I've used it to dig sewer lines, water lines, electric and communications conduits, Septic tanks and drain field, culvert, drainage for downspouts, cutting logs, taking out trees, etc..

CTyler:

I guess you didn't do your homework when you bought your hoe....
The pto pump is close coupled to the pto output shaft. There is no shaft whatsoever, just a torque arm that rides against the pto shaft housing. The pump has an internal splined female.

The quantity of oil in the remote tank will more than cool the hydraulics of the hoe. Besides, it has it's own spin on filter.

I don't know what a "HTL" is but Kubota's remotes are either detent or full float. Not continuous flow.
