How are you dealing with the drought?

Around here, the big farms that have irrigated for years have high nitrites in the drinking water. The tech school near those farms have signs at the water fountains...don't drink if your pregnant etc.

The only real way the drought is impacting me at the moment is my deer food plot. I planted a new one Saturday and I am irrigating it with an irrigation pump pulling water out of the creek behind it. The seeds are starting to sprout right now. Hopefully the mid 90's they have forecasted for the next week don't burn them up. Planning on watering 2 times a day during this next big heat wave. If they can weather this next week I HOPE we will be in the clear. The long range is starting to show a cooling trend by NEXT weekend. Fingers crossed! KIMG0186.JPG

Was. In a rush a couple weeks ago to get the potatos dug before more rain. It hasn't rained since.

Finally! Sun, low humidity, and a nice breeze....I can open the house and go mow the field. It has been so wet lately....Grrrrr. Bye!

Terrible drought here. Cant even remember our last rain although showers are promised today. Yeah, right.
Our lawn has gone. Only dirt now. It took us years to develop it. The Stringy Bark trees in the bush are first to show signs of stress. They turn brown and lose all their leaves.
A sign that good rain 'may' be coming is the behaviour of ants. I found a nest of them heading for high ground carrying their eggs a couple of days ago. In the past this generally was an indication of plenty of rain. Hope the ants are right this time. Desperately needed.

We had it that way for the last couple of years and I know how you feel. Right now, I'd like to have a good rain.
