How big is your garden and how many tomato plants?

They are just trying to make a name for themselves. I hope that with those being a hybrid they still produce, the seeds came from tomatoes from last year. I am starting my watermelon in the garage as it is still dipping down here yet, I still have corn and beans to plant but I think there is still time.

I'll never figure whats up with the marketing ideas of crossing an heirloom tomato with a hybrid such burpee brandy boy or the latest one a grafted rootstock brandywine. Seen some today at our greenhouse. Since heirloom classification is all about the original plant heritage do the producers actually believe it qualifies as heirloom. I just shake my head.

The thing is not made for the puriests that wont eat genetically mod food but for most folks who want a fruit that wont bruise as easy a prolific fruiter, one that grows all year fast and one that is DISEASE resisatant is the big one. So many find that if you can have all that i just wrote and the taste and look of the heirlooms you have a win win. I personally dont plant heirlooms. I plant what i like which is a acidy tomato tasteing plant. I dont like sweet tomatoes. I admit i am not against trying them i just never have.

Well I'll let you know how the grafted tomatoes sell...I have 4 for the weekend at $7.50 a plant. I remember several years back I grew some brandy boy tomatoes for the farmers market didnt sell well with the "puriests" at all :D

$7.50 for a single plant!!!? That"s nuts. There are so many things that can kill a tomato plant after it is set out that paying that much is just wacko, in my opinion. That's even more shocking than them calling it a heirloom. I won't even pay Walmart's inflated price of $3.38 a plant. I buy at the local greenhouse @ $18 for a flat of 48 plants. I can pick and choose among several plants so I get the healthiest looking plants because they have thousands for sale. I was back at that same greenhouse a few weeks back to buy annual flowers and they'd lowered their price to $11 per flat. How can anyone pay $7.50 for a tomato plant? That's nothing against you, DFB, but I've had so many plants fail after setting out that I think those buyers are just lookin' for something to show off to friends. I understand that you can't do all that grafting work and sell the plant cheap, but my head is spinning over the cost.:D

But these are special! :D

Dont worry Jim...for the discriminating buyer we still sell 6pks of tomatoes for $3.00 ea or a whole flat for $15 ;)

Nice set up, jinman. Looks easier than individual cages. Will be interesting to see how well it works. I didn't see netting with the dimensions you use on Amazon. Do you mind sharing where you got it?

Memphis Net & Twine
, all sizes are available. They have the best prices and choice of sizes I've found. My 328' roll was a bit over $55.
