How can they say John Deere has good resale value?

I dunno, but the biggest hit I've taken on a JD tractor was for about $700 or so after 3 years of use. On two others I actually made money when I sold them. I bought them flat out, no trade, and sold them myself. I brought in more in the selling price than what I paid; including all taxes etc. I sold 2 NH tractors and lost a combined $500 between them, and I have only sold 1 Kubota tractor and I broke about even, give or take a hundred bucks or so, after only a year's worth of use.

Maybe I'm just lucky. However, my tractors absolutely never sit outsied, they are washed and waxed several times each year, and I stay far, far ahead of any maintenance requirments by a long margin and all is documented with receipts and dates etc.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I think I"m going to keep what I have due to the fact that the dealers are so independent and money hungry.

The dealer is mistaken on the sales tax or he is trying to pull a fast one. Tax on any purchase (if paid) is paid up front. The state does not wait to get their money. It doesn't matter if you owe twice what it is worth they do not have to pay tax on the debt.

You need to find another dealer. This guy sounds more like a used car dealer/liar or worse, a real estate agent.

John Deere does build a nice tractor, but with anything mechanical theres problems. You have to ask yourself is it worth putting up with the independent dealers that don't seem to care one way or the other about sale, or to go orange? Theres always a lot of post about the service after the sale I have not seen where that matters in years, if your buying a new truck or tractor for that matter.
