Someday I might have a building of my own big enough to be able to walk straight thru, instead of sideways. Av8r2230 - I see a ceiling mount heater in you 28X36. Is it gas? Details and satisfaction? I'm looking for something to replace my portable LP bullet heater for a 24X36 here in central VA....not quite the weather you have!

I recognize that heater as being a Modine Hot Dawg gas heater. They come in either Natural Gas or Propane. I have a friend that just had one installed this past fall after I suggested it to him. I figured that I would let him be the Guinea Pig to find out how well they work. He is very pleased with its performance and says that it doesn't use a lot of propane. I have to tell you all that I don't have any JUNK. All my "stuff" either has been useful in the past, is useful in the present or could possibly be useful at some time in the future and, therefore, by definition can't possibly be junk ... or so I've been telling my wife for years.

The word junk should be removed from the English language as it's a well known fact that one man's trash is another man's treasure so there can't be such a thing as "junk", just misplaced "stuff" that needs relocating.

Ahhh. It's always that "stuff" for the future. I'm the same way. I probably need to go through and anything that's had a shelf-life of 5 years without being used should be relocated to be someone elses "treasure".

Junk does belong in the language. When you go to other peoples shops, there's 2 categories.
The things you would like to have in your shop = stuff
The things you don't want = junk

And you're right. We need to keep it around, at least to avoid seeing the handle "stuffman". /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes, it is natural gas. (Most common heat source in this area.) I didn't spend as much time in there as I would have liked this winter, but I am very satisfied with its performance and fuel consumption.

I generally keep the thermostat set at 45° in there and it keeps every thing happy. When I go out to do a project or something, I'll raise it up to 60°. It will get there in less than 30 min. I figure average is $15 per month to run.

Stats: It is a 45,000 BTU unit (sorry I don't remember the brand, but I don't think it is a Modine, Junk) with a horizontal flue out the back wall. Garage has 2x4 walls insulated with regular fiberglass, and 16" of cellulose in the attic. If I had it to do again, I would have sprung for the in floor heat.

Does Reznor UDAP 45K sound at all familiar. Can't see it very well from the photo but that would be my guess. It's a newer design to the FE type heaters. They have a lower profile for garages (The FE models stand vertically and require a 10' ceiling or so, just to walk under it).

Dave in VA - You should be able to get a heater like this (if it's the Reznor I'm thinking of) for around $500. A little more to convert to LP if you plan on going that route.
