No wonder why they are keeping a coal fired power plant going after it was set to shut down early this year and reactivating a nuclear plant that was decommissioned in 2022 in my state which is interesting cuz it will be the first nuke plant ever to be previously decommissioned, renovated, amd brought back online eventually.
I've never heard of using jet engines to to generate power. Til now.

Union Pacific did it in the 1950's. These turbine-powered electric locomotives ran on heavy oil, natural gas or pulverized coal. Horribly inefficient so they didn't last long. The big plume of smoke is actually from the diesel engine used for moving the cab unit around, the turbine engine is in the second unit. The third car is an old steam locomotive water tender converted to haul heavy oil because it used so much fuel.

This guy rebuilds turbine engines used in electric generating stations all the time. Good channel to watch with interesting information about turbine engines if you're into that sort of thing:

The military had similar jet turbine generators I found out.

So is it ai alone wanting/ or needing all this extra power generation or is it a combination of man and machine?

We as a society, already invest a material amount of human time and money in the care and feeding of technology...

How much effort do you expend just keeping your phones, tablets and computers charged and updated?

Screens get more face time than our children receive...

How much do you pay for technology...from devices, to monthly fees, to security, storage and app subscriptions?

How many tech devices have you given birth to? As an embarrassing example, my home network has 28 active devices (just checked) from smart plugs, smart TVs, phones, garage door openers...to the dishwasher now able to tell us it's finished...

All self inflicted slavery to technology, and it's still just in its infancy!

I had an assignment to visit numerous industrial sites all over the Los Angeles region. At one, the roar of a jet engine running at full power in a barn nearby was overwhelming as I arrived.

They told me this was supplemental local generating capacity that the utility started as needed. And while the engine is about the same as in a 747, they were purpose-built for this application rather than what I had assumed - retired aircraft engines.

I learned that the ability for aircraft-style jet engines to run at full output soon after a cold start is an advantage in this application.

Power gen turbines do not have to be light weight so they are built much more robustly. Often featuring steel compressor blades, larger/heavier bearings, etc. This also results in extended periods between maintenance.

There have only been 2 meltdowns. Both in Ukraine.

Funny. AI doesn't realize that a full melt down was just in Chernobyl. Pripyat was the town next to Chernobyl that the doomed emergency workers were taken to after Chernobyl melted down. Pripyat never had nuclear reactors nor a melt down. AI also doesn't know how to spell Pripyat.......:ROFLMAO:
