Just bought a slightly used Danuser PHD with hoses. Everything was laying on ground. Do I need to drain and flush the hydraulic hoses? If yes, how would I go about doing that?

some recomend you do.

simple to flush them, take the male end off of the QA hose, and cycle the ram to the end that will move pushing the old oil out.
replace end, swap hoses and repeat to cycle the other way.

doing this will also tell you if and how much blowby you have on the internal seals.

I will "assume" it is a hydraulic PHD since it has hose...So I would hook up only ONE line to your tractor, then remove the QD from the other hose and secure it into a 5 gallon bucket-then operate the remote lever on the tractor very slowly to push all the old fluid out into the bucket. Once it runs clean put the QD back on and check the fluid level in your tractor and add as necessary. I would guess you will need to have 1-2 gallons on hand to completely flush the motor on the PHD.

Just be very careful and go slow! The fluid will be under high pressure!

Ya think ?

He picks the wrong hose and he'll dead head his pump.

Rmg, quick disconnects on the hoses ?, just clean them up and go with it.

The ONE or less second the pump will be deadheaded before switching the lever will do no harm, that is exactly what the relief valve is for. Just in the normal course of operating a FEL the pump is deadheaded quite often for short periods of time.

That is bad advice...He has no idea what kind of fluid is in there or what condition it's in. Supposed it's full of water? He would then pump it right into the tractor!

I have to agree. No unknown fluids in my baby.

Did anyone else have something totally different go through their head when they read this sentence? :D

Anyway I have to second flushing the lines for the above stated reason.

Does this not hook up to his Power Beyond circuit, where there would be no relief valve ?

Beings he said "slightly used" and assuming there's quick connects on the hoses, chances of contaminates are pretty slim, no ?

First, we do not know for sure because the OP has not responded back. BUT a hydraulic PHD would hook up to a remote valve, NOT the PB loop since PHD's do not have valves built into them. If you hooked it into the PB loop it would turn whenever the tractor was running.

Second, most if not all tractors have a relief valve to protect the whole system. They are not just on valves.

But how old is it? It may be 10 years old...and "Everything was laying on ground". That would be plenty of time for water to accumulate in the oil. Is it really worth the risk for the price of one or two gallons of fresh oil?

Now, this may be a regular PTO driven PHD with a cylinder for down pressure, in which case we are just confusing the OP. Hopefully he will respond back and possibly post a picture.

I would take off the hoses and clean them off on the outside real good with just about any decent cleaner. Then I would put a few gallons of diesel fuel into a five gallon bucket and soak the hoses in there. After a few hours, take an air compressor and blow out the hoses. It's messy, but do this a number of times and you'll have clean hoses.

When I rebuilt one of my hydraulic pumps and drive motors on my dozer, this is how I was told to do it.
