How do I fix this hydraulic hose leak? Photo

Those flare connection surfaces can be broken by tightening too much. Then they will leak no matter what. I know from experience. Don't tighten more than a quarter turn or so after you feel resistance then run the system see if it leaks and if so tighten another quarter turn etc. If you have already put a lot of force on the fitting and it is leaking then take it off and inspect the flare part to see if it is cracked. If so then so long as there is some slack in the hose you can just have another fitting put on that hose.

Here's another possibilty...............piece of dirt or other object between the flare mating surfaces, inspect and clean if so and what I've done when tightening these fittings is to use a wrench to hold the "nut" part of the hose (to keep it from twisting) while tightening the flare nut.

I took the hose off and the threads in the nut and the threads on the cylinder are stripped. I need to remove the hose and the cylinder to get it repaired. I was told they would need to weld on a new fitting on the cylinder and re-crimp a new fitting on the hose. Since they cant do it while its installed on the tractor I am going to remove them myself.

The trick is now how do I pull the hose out from the crossbar frame of the loader. It is really tight and I dont know how hard I should pull. Also once you pull it out how do you thread the new hose back through the frame?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I have not been able to get back on to check these replies. Thanks for all the help.

Can you post a photo of the hose you are trying to get out. You mention the "crossbar frame" and I presume you are talking about the torque tube. Is the access hatch just small or are you unable to get a wrench onto the fitting in question?

A local hydraulic shop ought to be able to handle the repair for you. If I were in your shoes I would immediately PM Wayne County Hose and ask him for his FedEx address then send the whole mess to him to sort out. I watched a demo Andy did over the weekend on rebuilding a cylinder and was much impressed.

He actually had a new cyl. fitting as a demo, I never realized they were welded on. Would need to be a weld of pipefitter's quality I would think. Professional intervention would be a good thing, would hate to have to do a re-do.

Good luck with your fix.
