How do i mix roundup??

Actually, using too much can hurt. The tops die, but the plant recovers.

The trick is to mix the correct ratio and give it time to work. Too fast and you get to do it all over again.

Yes exactly right thats just what I learned from a landscaper and he was right you will think you haven't done anything and a couple weeks later its all dead for good.

I use generic 41% glyophosate with surfactant rather than roundup but I still call it roundup. :D

Just remember, the genes added to crops to give them resistance to Roundup are mobile and over time, will cross, and have crossed, to various weeds.

If you spray and nothing happens, either you forgot to add the chemicals, or you've got resistant weeds.

What did they consider "too hot"?

One thing I have noticed new users doing is improper application i.e. drenching the plants. Some herbicides do require a thorough drenching, but in my experience Roundup does not.

I use Crossbow rather than Roundup as I'm spraying pasture and not looking to kill the grass. But to answer your question, I think I was using about 3-4 times the recommended concentrate per gallon of water.

Thanks for the tip about using too much. I guess that can also happen if you over spray and an area gets sprayed twice. I have noticed about the tops turning brown and the plant living. I try to use dye...but it can be messy.

Thanks, we use Roundup in some places and Crossbow in others, We have established some native grasses and use the Crossbow there where it works really well.

To read the directions on the container is the best advice. RoundUp comes in so many variations and even that may or may not change when crossing country borders.

What did it die from?

It's the surfactant in the glyphosphate mixtures that kills the fish, which is why there are some formulations for aquatic use.

Actually, outcrossing is a rare source of resistance in weeds since few of current GE crops (eg corn, soybeans, cotton) have weedy relatives with which they are interfertile. Also, most crop species have been so thoroughly domesticated that they have very poor survival characteristics outside of an agricultural setting (they don't compete worth a darn), and these adverse characteristics also go along with any outcrossing. Canola/rapeseed may be an exception in that it has some weediness characteristics and interfertility with wild/weedy relatives. Of course a HT (herbicide tolerant) turfgrass would also likely have a similar risk.
The biggest single source of weed resistance to glyphosate or any other farm chemical is repeated use (or "overuse"), which is a very powerful selective pressure on the organisms that are exposed (this is equally true of insect resistance to pesticides). Mother nature constantly introduces genetic diversity via mutation and recombination so the rise of such resistance is a normal, expected outcome from a strong and prolonged selective force.
The presence of resistance genes in an organism only benefits it in the presence of that selective pressure...outside of the farm (or lawn) environment, the pesticide/herbicide resistance genes are not helpful at all, and may be deleterious.
