Re: How Do I Modify Steel Hydraulic Lines? (Shorten) & Fittings

Yes, I know pricing. A local hydraulics supply closed, and GAVE me all their fittings.
I doubt I will have any that fit (No weld, braze, or compression,,, all threaded)

I have lots of o-ring, NPT,,, etc,,,
I wonder if the other end of lines are held in with banjo bolts. If they are you might be able to just put in a o-ring base adapter where the banjo bolts were and hook up your new lines that way.
Might be worth a shot if you already have some adapters on hand.

I can't confirm this with personal experience but I did see this posted a few weeks ago. It appears the SAE fittings thread into the banjo fitting threads most of the time- in this case male SAE threading into the control valve.

I would remove the steel lines completely, and then go hose (3/8") to a new bulkhead and couplers in the rear. Easy to return to original that way, and probably the cheapest way to do it.

As others suggested I would look at the source and see if they have an easy connection to replace the existing lines with. Maybe start at JD parts with your model number and see what options they have.

As far as the steel lines go you can weld them if you have a mig. I broke and welded one of the stabilizer lines on my backhoe months ago and it hasn't leaked a drop. You have to remove them and clean the oil and crud off.

No banjos unfortunately, its some type of metric adapter according to John Deer Parts.

99% of the time that is true-you can remove a banjo bolt and replace with a ORB adapter.

Somewhere,, I read this is a M18 fitting,, I took a pic.
Amazingly, the paper tags are still on at the back of the lines,, you can even read the date of manufacture.

I think rubber hoses will be my best approach,, all I will need is four adapters,,
from the valve thread, to the hose.
The valve side of the fitting appears to have an o-ring.

I have plenty of 3/8 id, 3/8NPT hoses,, I hope I have four that are short enough.

It looks like I have not done enough cleaning,,, YET!!
