How Do I Refuel?

   / How Do I Refuel? #21
I have a little dilemna. I need to figure out how to install more diesel in my 5303.
I have a 19 gallon fuel tank
Here are the options I'm aware of:
1*Get some kind of storage vessle for the house to refill at home
2*Well, the decision was kind of made for me. We are in the middle of what appears to be a fairly major snow storm. Since my opportunity to drive the tractor into town has passed
1*like this
2*would eliminate the need to go after fuel during a storm.

Well, the decision was kind of made for me. We are in the middle of what appears to be a fairly major snow storm. Since my opportunity to drive the tractor into town has passed, I ended up buying a couple 5 gal yellow diesel cans and filling them up this morning.

I would still secretly like to drive down the road in high gear once just because I can.

Thanks again for all the input.

I did not pay attention to the fact that you have a 5000 series tractor when I first read your post, but you should still be okay with a couple of cans.

As far as trying the tractor out on the road which is understandable just pick a nice day with dry roads and remember to lock the brake pedals together, make sure you are in 2 wheel drive and watch the rpms'.

Now you guys all realize that any container which is not emptied completely into the fuel tank in one go is going to sit partially full, maybe even less than 1/2 full for long periods of time.

If condensation is a problem in the tank, why isn't condensation in the fuel container (15 or 55 gal, take your pick) equally evil?

The fuel system has on your tractor has a return line coming from the engine. The fuel pump delivers all the fuel to the injectors. If you are at idle you may use 10%. The 90% is returned to the fuel tank. It warms cold fuel and that will cause the air in the tank to expand. When you shut off the tractor and the air contracts it draws outside air to equalize pressure in the tank drawing in humidity. That is why you want to keep the tank as full as possible. Your 15or 55 gallon tank does not warm each time you run your tractor.
