i just purchased a kk middle buster and am having trouble getting it to dig the full depth of the furrower. i have adjusted my top link several different ways, but to no avail. i read a post on here, quite some time back, that mentioned something about using a shorter top link and was wondering if someone could give me some advice on this.

The lower 3pt arms typically have multiple holes where they connect to the upper arm. Move the connecting parts to the hole closest to the tractor. Then shorten the top link so the point of the buster is pointing downward a bit. Keep shortening it and it should dig more aggressively.

I have this same problem. Lenghtening and shortening of the top link don't seem to have much of an effect. Initially, I thought shortening would help, but as the thing dug deeper, there is more of the main beam/shaft that is submerged, and at a slight upward angle (due to the short top-link) and that begins to have more of a raising effect against the downard effect of the point. My next solution is to try to get a larger point so there will be more downward force. Last time I used it (to bury electric cable) we had two people (so about 400#) standing on it, and were able to get a large cable buried about 15 or so inches down.

Need to see a picture of your 3pt hitch to know what adjustments you have. They're not all the same.

Here's the KK MB on my Kubota B7510HST and the plowing results

This work was done in April near the end of our rainy season so the soil was pretty soft. I could bury the MB to the crosspiece that connects to the 3pt hitch lower arms.

How deep do you want it to go?

If 12", then drive the tractor up onto 12" blocks (front and back) and lower the 3 pt to see what position the point of the middlebuster is pointing. If not down in digging position, then you will have to shorten the top arm. Other depths can be checked the same way. Maybe it won't even reach as deep as you want it to go.

Having a hyd. top arm is the best, so you can start the middle buster into the ground and change the top arm as it goes deeper, to maintain a digging point.

You need to find out where that point is pointing in order to determine what you need to adjust. IMO. :) Good luck.

thanks all you guys for taking the time to respond. i will try some of your suggestions and see how it goes. i am mainly trying to go deep enough to put in a drain pipe for the downspouts off my barn. was hoping to go at least as deep as the furrower blade that came with the middlebuster, which is about 12'' inches.

Weight is your friend on top of the buster or make a bracket to hold some weight. Ken Sweet

And make more than one pass to bust open the dirt and rock. You will have to clean out the dirt anyway to lay the drain pipe in. Each pass can have a shorter top arm.
