How do you clean your guns?

/ How do you clean your guns? #21
Roughly it was already hit on. The rope is impregnated with crud after just a few passes. A lot of guys also wind up with all kinds of crud in the chamber from the bore snake. I do use them. You won't catch me hunting or traveling anyplace without one but IMO its not good for a steady diet. Run a few clean patches through after a bore snake and I think you will see its not that clean. I have never had a rod get anything ground into it. I prefer coated rods but any one piece rod that is the correct diameter for the gun is my first choice. Someone mentioned a product that gets left in for a few minutes. That sounds like "Sweets" but its very toxic. It will take out the tuff copper deposits but you have to use it sparingly.

Ok, I see now where you are coming from, and I might be inclined to agree, though I'm uncertain. I would also think the soft nylon rope would absorb the particles rather than inflict them into the steel barrel. Unlike a plastic rod, which would offer a much firmer resistance, thus more force into the barrel. But I will take the concept to heart. I'm thinking boresnae might not be a perfect solution. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Its a perfect solution for the guy who might not clean his guns otherwise. Your probably splitting hairs on most 22's but IMO not on centerfires or smoothbores at home.

Every once in a while, Hoppes Bench Rest #9, run through the barrel and let sit over night.

Tetra gun cleaning products as far as oil is one favorite, along with Break Free.

One tool that I have found to be irreplaceable (sp?) in cleaning most of my guns is a dental pick. You know the pick the dentist uses? Usually can buy them for a buck at gun shows, and they can get into the hardest places.

Hot water with Murphy's Oil Soap. Rinse with rubbin' alcohol (absorbs the water), Coat it with bee's wax and olive oil mixture. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Of course this don't work with Nitro cellulose or glycrine. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thats basicly how I clean my black powder gun, except for the oil. Works prety well, though I use a cooler to dunk the barrel in, so its a little messy.. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Looks like more guys use Hoppes than I thought.. Might be better than I thought. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
