Need your help guys. I don't know what type hubs were used on the homemade axle for my log splitter:confused: . I would like to increase the size to 15 inch from the current 13, but don't now what type wheels will interchange. Does anyone know where I can check bolt patterns to determine the hub manufacturer? Current wheels are 5 bolt, 3 3/4 inches across the horizontal bolts.

Thanks
Terry

Not that it can't be done, but I'd consider the hub's capacity for the 15" dia wheel. I'd say the hub / axle is aligned with the 13" wheel's load bearing.

The 13" - 5 on 3.75 is an odd pattern for the 13" wheel.

Weight distribution should not be an issue since this is an automotive hub on a log splitter that can't weigh more than 400 lbs. I agree, this is an odd pattern, just hoping I can convert without changing hubs.

I'm still looking. :D

Terry,
Did you measure correctly? 5 bolt at 3 3/4" spacing seems to be a very closely spaced pattern. Check at tirerack.com/wheels/tech then hit bolt patterns. the smallest they show for a 5 bolt pattern is a 4.00 spacing.

Pop the bearing cap off & measure from the center of the spindle to one of the lugs, then double that measurement. That will be your "bolt pattern" diameter. Typical 5-lug bolt patterns are 4.5", 4.75", 5", & 5.5". Atypical 5-lug bolt patterns are 4", & 4.625" (I'm sure there are a few more, but those are what I'm familiar with). Another method to determine bolt pattern on 5-lugs is to measure from the center of one lug to the far edge of another lug that is two lugs away from the first. If that totally confused you, then just check this page: MRW - How to measure bolt pattern

Thanks for the replys. I actually found a pair of rims on the World Largest Yardsale today. I live near the Southern end. Anyway, found these rims with tires mounted, measured the bolt cross section, and what do you know, it was what I needed. I poped one on a soon as I got home. Unfortunately, the guy that was selling them didn't know what they were supposed to fit. Go figure, but for $6 each, with decent tires, I couldn't turn them down. I'll never wear them out just pulling around my property.
