How do you find a good welder?

I'm not allowed to weld for medical reasons, but I always seem to find these little jobs I'd like done.. Right now I'd like a bracket welded up so I can hook my snow plow to the FEL for snow removal.
How can I find a good welder locally? And how do I know what a fair price is for welding.

Any weld shop could do the job. Can you take the workpiece to the welder, or would they have to come to your place?

Can't hurt to ask, but I've never heard of anything blocking out or negating a magnetic field except for distance...

Not sure if it's possible in this instance but here's a link to how it's done with in medical equipment.

Probably best/easiest to go with a shade tree welder but there might be an opportunity for some entrepeneurial type to develop something to help shield pacemakers.

I agree with Roy, besides you read what the OP said about the kind of reactions he gets--NO WAY would I take that chance! Easier to find a shade tree welder.
