I've never tried to do it.. I don't mess with video much.

Lady at work has a video on her and her moms phone she wants to save down.

I am not familiar with what formats phones record in...

ideas?

thanks

My guess would be most modern computers would play the video no matter what the format. If you hook a phone up to a computer using a USB port you should be able to look at the directories in the phone using explorer. It might load some software to the computer first, I know my phone did but it was pretty automatic. Once you find the file you can just drag and drop it to the computer or a CD.

This, on my Iphone you can open the folder just like you would a jump drive and copy and paste videos and pictures onto the computer.
I AM NOT a techno junkie so if it is easy for me most kindergartners could pull it off.

There are probably as many ways as there are smartphones... Mine (motorola droid) records in .MP4 format. either email it to yourself or I use WiFi file transfer ( a simple android ap) to pluck it off of the SD card in the phone to get it into my computer network. Once I have the vidoe off of the phone and on the computer system you can use one of many file conversion programs to convert it to any file format you want at the same or lower resolution. You can then burn it to a DVD, (windows DVD maker) or just save it to a CD that a PC can read and can be opened with your microsoft media player or real player or what ever you like to use to view videos.. I seem to remember windows media player older versions will not play .mp4 directly without an add in.. I think quick time will. But there must be a million conversion programs out there for free. The first step is getting it off of the phone, once you have done that, then you can do anything with it using a PC. There must be at least a dozen wifi file transfer programs on the google play store to download. I don't know much about apple IOS but I am sure there are 2 dozen over there.. they are rich into media applications.

See, there are lots of ways the other guys are talking about using a USB cable, but WiFi is more convenient, you don't have to hunt up the USB cable:laughing:
