How do you mow waist high grass?

There's a HUGE difference between progress and change.

You got that right Farmwithjunk.

I for one am glad not to be plowing and such with a mule. I did that many years ago, and it is a lot of work.
Change is inevitable as more people need places to live. My opinion is that city type of folks should keep their lives and rules in the city and let country folks do the same for the country.

I wish I would have had my camera with me this weekend. I cleaned up a lot that my boss owns next to his house. The grass was at least 6' tall. An area of about 100' x 100'. The only thing I ran over was a discarded 18" chunk of RR tie. The only other problem was the grass wrapping around the pto shaft, I had to take a hatchet to it to get to the release button. I was using the old 506 (I think) JD bush hog that is old dented and has an uncovered pto shaft.

Watch that pto shaft seal. I've seen grass do a number on them!

Boy, after reading this thread I am glad that I don't have to deal with some of the BS you guys / gals do. If my grass ( weeds ) would not be allowed to grow over 12" inches tall I would have to bush hog 20 acres every two weeks. I live in a pretty rural area about 30 miles north of Columbus. OH. We just passed zoning a few years ago because they wanted to put two dumps in our county. Luckily the zoning only applies to trailers ( only allowed in a trailer park now ) and commercial businesses ( dumps ) that want to move in. The only permit that you need to build a house is a septic permit, which I believe should be mandatory anyways. As with most people in my area I moved out here to be left alone and not be harassed by government officals. My biggest pain in the a** is hunters tresspassing on my property to hunt deer.

Back on topic, I have some kind of grass that grows in my waterway and generally by May it will be around 6' tall. I was told by the guy from the ODNR that it a type of grass that filters out nitrogen from fertilizers and other stuff before it gets dumped into the creek behind the house. Also to promote ground bird nests I usually don't bush hog until after June anyways. The ground birds will usually have there young by then.

P.S. For the Ohioans on the board. I read in the Columbus Disgrace yesterday that Ohio is #2 in the US in urban sprawl.

So who is the "winner" #1 in urban sprawl.

They did not say in the article and I cannot find it on the web. I did find this article from the USA Today ( article is over 5 years old though ) that has a city by city breakdown. I looked it over quickly but it looks like NC and FL are probably high on the list too.
