How do you pay for your fuel?

I don't use much cash since we put 99.99% of everything on the credit cards. One credit card pays up to 5% for gas, groceries and drugs with 1.25% for everything else. Another card gives 1% back on everything. We use this card if the other card is not accepted. Those percentages really add up over time.

The cards are paid off every month.:D

Am I in the minority by using cash?

I think so. I only use cash in bars, or convenience stores. I get a couple hundred in cash out of the bank, and it lasts me 4-6 weeks. Short of beer and smokes, I put everything I buy on a credit card, but pay it off every month. Its a free 30 day loan. I get 1% back on all purchases, and 5% back at the gas pumps. Why wouldn't you use a card?

When you use a Visa debit card as a credit card for fuel, Visa automatically holds $100 until your funds clear. I don't like them making a little interest using my money so I always use the card as debit...and save all of my receipts. My bank has had so many complaints from patrons about Visa that they're switching us all over to Mastercard. I don't know how MC will handle it...we shall see.

For off road diesel I have a little plug-in key thingy that links to my fuel supplier and it's debited from my bank account at the end of the month. I get a statement from them which makes it easy to keep track of.

I don't pay, I just drive off:D

Seriously, I call and have it delivered to the tank in the yard. I mail a check the next day, and get a discount if recived within 10 days. If I am out and about, I use the Visa debit linked to my checking account. No credit cards for me for anything. Never had a hold placed on any purchase made with it.

I have always used a regular credit card and I pay the full balance off every month. My credit card has no fees or expenses so I get to use the bank's money for that month interest free.

Thats what we do for EVERY thing we can.. By using the CC we accrue airline points &/or discover card points which we redeem for stuff - its paid off in full monthly so the rewards are basically free for us..

We write maybe 1 or 2 checks a month, and that is normally for stuff that wont take a CC

I've got 2 Visa debits. One for biz and one for personal. Glad that you mentioned the $100 hold. I never knew that. I always use debit for the simple fact that several local merchants treat debit the same as cash and offer a 5 cent per gallon discount. I save the receipts for tax purposes with the biz card, which is mainly diesel for a bucket truck.
One major pain about the debit transactions is that the pumps automatically shut down at the $50 mark. Kind of a pain when I've got two twenty gallon tanks on my bucket truck.

I pay everything by credit card and collect the points. I never pay a dime in interest as I pay them off every month.

This year I'm sending the wife and daughter to Europe for free.

Last year I bought my Christmas presents with points. Things you need to purchase anyway, like food, fuel, etc. all go on the pints card. Adds up pretty quickly.

I even earned $3,000 worth of point towards a new GM vehicle. If I but a GM vehicle I can combine that purchase with another card that has $1,000.00 in points towards ANY vehicle I purchase. 4K off a vehicle just for buying fuel, groceries etc.

I even pay vendors with credit cards if they take them.

Here in the NW we have a grocery/dept type store called Fred Meyers, they are part of the national Kroger chain. They have a rewards card that is very good, we buy most of our grocieries and some other stuff there. We get $.10 off fuel at their name stations. They have a credit card that if you use it instead you get $.20 off on fuel and more other rewards, thinking strong about that. Here in WA the road tax portion of state taxes on fuel is rebateable for off road consumption. Have to have pump reciepts (type, GL, and cost) and file a claim at least once a year. Really adds up for gas and diesel. I have 50 GL tank and pump for each. We use a debit card for the majority of purchases except big items we need to stretch out a little. Have no idea if Kroger has this deal elsewhere.
